Alternatives to LightScreen
« on: March 26, 2011, 04:29 AM »
Alternatives to LightScreen.

I'm having problems with LightScreen in one of my systems. I can't take screenshots and I don't know why. Perhaps is interacting with another program, so I need to try another screenscapturer.

The features I like to preserv are :
a) capturing hotkey configurables (screenshot captor does)
b) save screenshots to a configurable folder or ask me each time where I want to save that screenshot.
c) start minimized with the system (screenshot captor does)
d) save to files with name system and hour. Configurable.  (screencaptor does)

Best Regards

Note : I have modified this post accordingly to the comments down...

Don't know about d) but I am certain that ScreenshotCaptor does the other three.  Even if it doesn't do d) now, I don't *think* it would be too terribly difficult for Mouser to implement.

Screenshot captor supports name field variables so d) is possible but the latter part of b) isn't possible right now. SC auto-saves into a pre-defined folder, however later the screenshots can be moved into other folders with a handy 'Move To' menu item.

Good catch Lanux.  I took b) as either/or so yes, it does the first part, but not the second.

Nice list indeed. But then perhaps no one is better than screenshot captor.
I will comment

What's not good enough for using ScreenShotCaptor? It does all you request, afaics (and you said that yourself), the location of the stored screenshots can be set from configuration, and you requested a feature to prompt for the location with each screen shot. Is that an indispensable feature of LightScreen?

If I can store the screenshot in a folder of my election I have an additional work to reallocate those files in the future.
I need a working freeware. Better portable as LightScreen portable.

Nothing new under the sun. I continue searching the web with no results at the present moment.

Choose Pop-Up Choice Dialog in Preferences.
Click 'save image as' in your pop-up choice window,
and it will give you a choice of where to save your shot in SC.

Screenshot captor is powerful indeed.

Instead of offering a placer to save as offer a lot of possibilities including this.

I don't understand why i'm going to save as appear by defect the pcx option file type when in the configuration I set to png.

Only when I save as, because in other options of the splendid menu i have no problem.

 :P

Ouwwww .
I change to png in that menu when select save as and remain. So my problem is solved.
Really screenshot captor open new possibilities and is more powerful.

With less options Lightscreen is faster (when goes well, of course, because this morning i try to capture in safe mode with the same result on the affected system). I think I will adopt SC for a long time.

Two suggestions about Pop-Up Choice Dialog :

1. Add possibility to upload the image to the web
2. Configure the possibility of only one choice by defect if desired : by example save as to a folder of my election, then pop-up dialog don't appear and goes directly to the last opened folder.

Best Regards
