For some reason whenever I type, that game almost completely locks up my PC for several seconds. In this way I can cheat since everything freezes and I can type every word I see on the screen and it will be several seconds after I stop typing that the game will start running again.

But it runs very smoothly when I don't type.

cool idea. had to stop playing it as my wrists began to ache.

i used to play "The Typing of the Dead" a lot - you got little breaks with that - which might be a good idea for Z-type to include.

Z-Type has little breaks.

It has breaks between the waves.

And for me, any time I type I get a nice long break.

the breaks between the waves don't seem very long to me. maybe i've just got tired hands.

After playing another game made with the same HTML5 Game Engine, I've realized that it's the engine that's broken, not the game. For some reason any time the games play a sound effect, my entire computer locks up for a few seconds. Weird.

Since it rely on HTML5, it may depends greatly on the browser's implementation.

Typing Shark is fun... nothing is better than "Typing of the Dead". It's a shame "Typing of the Dead 2" never got an English version. :(

Anyway,  Z-Type is also fun, but I can't press ESC to select a new aim. Also, with later levels it gets impossible, as there are several alien ships starting with the same letter and the engine isn't aiming for the closest enemy.

Made it up to 031, then I got bored with it. It starting to type other words than I wanted gets really annoying, especially if the words it picks are also clipped by other words so I have to wait for it to become visible. :(

Were it not for those issues, I'd call it a pretty epic game.

Still using IE8 here at the office...I click on the Ztype link above... And get:

To play this game you need a good Browser, like Opera, Chrome, Firefox or Safari.
-the site

Um... I need a "good" browser like Safari?!? Good for what? sharing my Identity with people in the next universe? I wouldn't use that POS if the only alternative was  2 soup cans, 30' of kite string, a 6 year old phone book and a telegraph keypad.

Hopefully the site will run on IE9 ... If I can remember to try it when I get home. :(

It runs a lot better for me now, but the audio still has problems. It crackles and plays a bit late, but at least the framerate is improved.

Still, got bored around level 20.

Okay, two thing:
1. It does work in IE9
2. As I type this...It seems oddly quiet now.

Best I could do is level 7 - Looking at my fingers - I can't type.
