DupeTrasher is an application that finds and removes duplicate files and folders from your computer. In addition, DupeTrasher can also look inside archives and find locations where they have been extracted.

All these features, packed in a user-friendly interface, make the whole process of removing duplicates: easy, fast and safe.

DupeTrasher's Website: http://www.dupetrasher.com/

Note for DonationCoder users: You can get DupeTrasher 2009 with the discount of 40% if you enter coupon code DT2009-DC2W on the order page.

Hi AsmDev,

:-[ I downloaded the installer and never got around to installing it. Doing so now - will play with it (I have a few "runs" that need to be done, anyway) and post back here.

Heh, heh - just found a typo in the start up screen - when you mouse over the optical drive icon "already" is spelled "alrady"! There are also a couple of grammatical errors - mousing over the "One click search" button (first icon to the left), the title reads: "Once click search". The "Find duplicates inside archives" has this in the last line: "once in an archive and other time" where "other" should read "another".

Also, the Welcome page reads:

Easy by asking just the minimum possible effort on the user's behalf
I'm not entirely sure what was intended here, perhaps

Easy by requiring the minimum possible effort on the user's part

Right. Now to find some duplicate files!

EDIT: Formatting

Wow - my first observation is that DupeTrasher is very quick and visually stunning. It just went through 82GB of files in about 2.5 minutes and found 2GB of redundant files. The layout, viewing options (detailed, compact, groups, and folder), and colour scheme mean that it's quite easy to setup and use and to review the files/folders that are found. Overall, it's much easier to setup and use and it is quicker than DoubleKiller Pro (for which I have a license). I'll keep playing with it - for the amount that I use a duplicate finder, this would be very handy - its ease of use versus DoubleKiller Pro would be a time saver

These, of course, are my initial impressions.

Huh I can't believe I missed those typos... I guess sometimes developers are occupied too much with looking for functional bugs rather than grammatical  Thanks for that!

Since you liked it and you also found this typos please send me a private message, include your full name and your email address, as I'd like to give you a free license for this.

Thanks again!

I am just starting to try DupeThrasher.
My first impression is however: Woaaaaa, what a beautiful user interface.
Congratulations !!!    (Are there any competitions for aesthetically designed UIs?)

(.... other programs published these days get already the name "2010".  2009 sounds almost outdated    :) )

Hi AsmDev,

I am a licensed user of DoubleKiller Pro.

I would like to know if DupeTrasher has commandline support ?

I find commandline extremely useful if you use a software like Directory Opus together with software like Beyond Compare, Double Killer Pro which both have commandline support.

I thought the name of the program was DupeTrasher? What's all this DupeThrasher business? A Freudian wish to send your duplicate files to a more violent end?

Darwin and Shades, no problem, thank you for your feedback and testing!

Lutz, I am glad you liked the graphics since I am not professional designer but I tried my best.  :)

patteo, right now DupeTrasher doesn't have any command line features but I can implement that for the future version. What exactly would you like to have with this command line support? I haven't checked that feature in other duplicate scanners (will do that as soon as I get some time) so your feedback would be helpful as the starting point.

Innuendo, the name is DupeTrasher, not DupeThrasher as some guys here misstyped, but I dont mind as long as we understand each other ;)

It's when they thrash you, then throw you in the dumpster that it really hurts!! :)

I haven't checked that feature in other duplicate scanners (will do that as soon as I get some time) so your feedback would be helpful as the starting point.

Directory Opus is able to launch other programs (from a User Define button) and at the same time send it commandline parameters:

For example : the following Commandline command can be assigned to a button.
C:\Program Files\Double Killer Pro\doublekiller -clearfolders -addfolder "{sourcepath}" -addfolder "{destpath}" -addfolder "D:\updated files" lib -page 3

Directory Opus is an incredibly powerful Dual pane file manager which many use to manage their files.

So in the example above, instead of separately launching Double Killer Pro or for that matter any other programs like Beyond Compare, and then navigating these programs to the source and destination paths (that I'm currently at in Directory Opus), Double Killer Pro is launched (with a Directory Opus User Button) with the correct source and destination paths and the duplicate files searching process begins immediately.

It is an incredible time saver.

And integrating the two, ie Directory Opus and Double Killer Pro makes them a killer pair, likewise, Directory Opus and Beyond Compare also makes another killer pair.

The integration is seamless via the commandline commands provided by Double Killer Pro and Beyond Compare.

You can really appreciate the huge time saving benefits only if you invest the time in this area and it does not take a lot of user time once programs like Double Killer Pro and Beyond Compare provide the facility for accepting commandline commands.

I have several buttons in Directory Opus configured to link these programs.

patteo freeCommander has a similar utility called Favorite Programs.  You create an entry with an editor similar to Visual Studio external tools.  It has variables to indicate selected file, active file, selected folder, active folder.. once you have it set up you can drag the icon onto the toolbar. If I want to open an .avi file in AviDemux to unpack it or whatever, I just select the file and hit the AviDemux button I made on the toolbar.

When I first read about DupeTrasher, I swore not to try it! The reason is very simple and can be illustrated with a little screenshot from my True_Launchbar:

dup.gif

- and, yes, they are all fully licensed $hareware programs - edit except for the 'Nuker.

But why do I keep on purchasing this kind of programs? In fact, I didn't quite know the answer myself until I read patteo's post (Reply #18). What I am missing is speed (and ease) in the USE of the program (ANY program)! I acknowledge that DupeTrasher is a very fast scanner, but the examples given by patteo goes to show how to make the final result come out even faster yet.

Personally I have no idea how to write "genuine" command-line parameters, so I am bound to also ask for pre-written examples. As an example, if AsmDev is reading this and maybe even will try out the free Quizo QTTabbar with Vista's Explorer, then Vista+Quizo makes me able to add simple arguments like %f% and such (see next screenshot) to a shortcut to any program. I am however not convinced that these arguments are universal accepted.(?) At least, I think I have seen others use quite different arguments.
