Living Room / Dual NIC use
« on: November 19, 2009, 07:37 PM »
Hi all,
I wish to install a dual port ethernet NIC. My reason is to use my PC as the server/gateway w/router & other devices attached to 2nd port. My setup as I it: Internet input to modem-outut to my PC/dual port NIC, 2nd port provides Internet output to my router & other devices I will be networking. I have a Dell XPS 600 running XP Pro. I wish to use an Intel Pro 10/100 Dual port PCI card. Does this sound feasible??
Thanks

Living Room / Dell XPS 600 power supply(s)
« on: July 01, 2009, 06:52 PM »
Hi all,
My PS for the 600 has 650 watts. There is not a higher rated PS to fit the wiring harness setup on the 600. I want to install 2 GeForce 9800 GTX v-cards (7900's SLI now), but lack power. It so happens I have 2 exact PS that fit the 600. Is there a way to use both PS's in sync to power my new v-cards. Needing to splice into the systems on/off and control wires to power on/off at the same time. Be able to power the cards separately off of my spare PS. Seems like an interesting idea. BUT...maybe burn down my sys board real quick with one mistake. Any thoughts???
Thank you all.
Charley

General Software Discussion / Open Source Sorftware Security
« on: March 24, 2008, 02:17 PM »
Hi all,
As a matter of curiosity. Has anyone heard of, or been a victim of malicious software introduced through use of open source software? Do the open source programmers introduce security into the applications? Recently I had my printer software corrupted in the registry. I run XP pro. I have very good security software too. It took a lot of trial and error to find the culprit. Foxit PDF reader was the vehicle, but I believe it was a PDF document itself that was opened through Foxit and not the application, but I am not positive. I have gone back to using "registered" bought software I had prior for now. So I await response of the community. Thank you all.

General Software Discussion / Code 19 in Device Manager
« on: March 13, 2008, 05:07 PM »
I have XP Pro (SP2) OS on a Dell XPS 600.  Without ANY new hardware/software installs/upgrades my Dell All-in-one Photo 964 printer decided not to print anymore. I can copy, but not print, including test pages of course. In Device Manager (see attached pic's) under imaging devices I had the yellow exclamation point and the reason given as Code 19, Registry corrupted, blah, blah. But the Printer was not flagged. I ran Registry Fix to no avail. Tried to go back to a prior registry backup point(s), a prior restore point(s), uninstall drivers/reinstall drivers, uninstall & reinstall printer software, all to no avail. In Microsoft's database code 19 is dealing with filters listed for cd/dvd drives.  Before I drop kick this thing and reinstall the the OS and start over any body have any cool knowledge out there. I have some basic reasoning brain drain ability with PC's but need help with this please. I hate to take the time to reformat and install all the crap I have on here. Any further info you may need please ask also. Thank you very much.
