Hi, thanks to Carol I'm now using http://www.stardustsoftwa...wnloads/tools/sscontrol3/ . Description: Stardust Screen Saver Controlâ„¢ 2003 is a free taskbar accessory that lets you launch and configure all your screen savers.
Features: 4Launch default screen saver with a single click. 4Select from a list of installed screen savers. 4Launch/configure/disable any screen saver. 4Quickly enable/disable current screen saver. 4Set Windows to randomly pick a screen saver. 4Easy install/uninstall. Now I need nice and small (I don't want big screensavers that take long to start up) screensaver(s). Do you know a source for nice ones? Artistic, minimalistic, whatever. Thanks

I have a few on my art site. They start fast on my pc but I am not sure if they start fast on others, though. http://russografix.tkI have also done some custom ones I can't share with the world. If you have something special in mind, let me know.

Why don't you check that option in the "energy management" section in control panel? That could be done in ahk, but if the program didn't work flawlesslly, things could go wrong (specially if you've got a laptop)

I use FARR to trigger nircmd with the following:
monitor (on/off/low) $$1 | nircmd.exe monitor $$1

well it's certainly FAR from a "low-resource" screensaver, but far and away my all time favorite (and current) screensaver is electric sheep. Simply beautiful, and never gets boring or repetitive. And I feel that my computer is keeping herself entertained while I'm away.   But, if simplicity and minimalism is what you're after, might I suggest PowerDimmer from WhitSoft development. It's Donationware, and quite system-friendly. It uses alphachannel to dim the screen so you can still see what's happening "underneath" even when its dimmed. Quite pleasing. Oh, and it's only 3kb !

Thanks, those are looking pretty cool! well it's certainly FAR from a "low-resource" screensaver, but far and away my all time favorite (and current) screensaver is electric sheep. Simply beautiful, and never gets boring or repetitive. And I feel that my computer is keeping herself entertained while I'm away.   Wow, that's not only a great-looking screensaver, I also like the idea behind it! Looks perfect, will install it right now! Thanks!

glad to hear that Brother... you should at least give electricsheep a try... after a few minutes staring at it, I think it will make a believer out of you!

So far I'm very happy with http://www.whitsoftdev.com/powerdimmer/ ! It allows me to auto-dim the screen to 25%, so I can still see what's going on in Miranda/IRC when I pass by the PC. Btw, why aren't you in the IRC channel?

And it's one of the only programs that i know of, that have a useful bug: The notification windows from msn messenger don't get dimmed, so, i leave the screen dim to 10%,but when someone speaks to me in msn, i can still see who's speaking Thanks again for that great link! Btw, why aren't you in the IRC channel? I am...

Oops, I totally forgot to thank you Now I'm searching for a screensaver that just turns the monitor off - but wasn't able to find a (freeware) saver to do so... who could help? I know its a bit late, but I just read your post. Monoff4 is exactly what you are looking for. It has some options, such as low power mode or monitor off and ignore mouse movements or dont ignore mouse movements Read the official description: Monoff 4 - Turns the monitor off
When run, Monoff4.exe puts your monitor in a low power or power off mode, saving electricity. This can be used instead of Wizmo's "monoff" feature. Some people have had problems with Wizmo interfering with background processes that start up while Wizmo is running, and problems when multiple instances of Wizmo run at the same time. See my Wizmo FAQ page for more on this. Monoff 4 can't produce these potential problems. The Microsoft VC++ 7project source code is provided for those who are interested.
Note: To run Monoff 4 as a screensaver, just rename Monoff4.exe to Monoff4.scr And here is the download link: http://www.jimbug.org/dow...files/monoff4/Monoff4.zip

Thanks, that's a nice find too!
(Btw, I edited your post to change "code" to "quote", since that's better to read for people with lower screen resolutions)

babis, forgive me but if all you want is to turn off the monitor, windows (2000 and xp anyway...... and even 98 I believe) should be able to do this for you via the "power options" control panel......... eliminates the overhead of another screensaver. another alternative is the venerable EnergySaver from Entech. It runs any screensaver of your choice in a "wrapper" which will use DPMS to power off your screen after a specified period. But this is really only needed if Windows' built in power controls are not working for you for some reason. Not free however.

Luck, I know about power options and turnoff monitor after a specified amount of time. However brotherS asked: Now I'm searching for a screensaver that just turns the monitor off - but wasn't able to find a (freeware) saver to do so... who could help? So I helped.

One of the things I love about this site is that I am always getting introduced to little gems like this one. I wanted to thank you for showing me this. I am a technical trainer, and during a break in a recent class my screensaver (electric sheep, of course) came up. I had to take class time to point all 6 of my students to the website. Of course, I couldn't just show them the site, instead, I showed them this post and then used the link (projectors are wonderful) and that of course led me to tell them about DC.

I know I'm late with my contribution to this discussion, but nobody mentioned in this thread the famous Flurry ( http://www.maddogsw.com/flurry/). Runs on dual monitor setup as well. Simple and nice.
