I need a good DVD converter!

http://www.dvdcatalyst.com - the 7-day trial is fully functional, it is not free but is so cheap I believe it is so much better. I have converted most friends/family to purchasing this as the author provides fantastic forum/email support and the strongest selling point is that not only can you convert to ALL APPLE products but also just about any other device.
If you get a new device that isn't supported the author will just quickly add support for you.

DVDFab is free lifetime updates as well... I've never had a problem with it. I wish it would burn to CD as well, though. If it did, I'd never use any other burning programme.

This policy has just recently changed - previous purchasers still have the lifetime upgrade policy, but after May 8 new purchases get 1 year of upgrades.  According to the purchase page, upgrade license renewal will be no more than 20% of the retail price.

Also new is that the module to convert to mobile formats is no longer included in the 'Platinum' product - it's a separate add-on license (I think the add-on works for either DVDFab Platinum or DVDFab Gold, but I'm not certain).
