Why is it so hard to find a decent image organizer?

I still havent bought anything to organise images :-[

When I think about it, what I would want from an image organiser would be:

* reasonable speed
* ease of organising, adding categories etc.
* good search
* ease of opening in my choice of external editor - maybe photoshop for this one, Sagelight for the next
* ease of use
