OpenDNS - safer, faster and smarter DNS

<< < (6/6)

nosh:
Digital Inspiration has a useful tip for OpenDNS users who would like to keep using Gooooogle as the default search engine associated with the address bar.

Long story short:
about:config
keyword.url  ---> http://www.google.com/search?q=
keyword.enabled ---> true

It's interesting to note that the string in my keyword.url already pointed to Google but with different params, changing it to the simpler string actually enabled Google.

The article has similar info for IE users too.

FYI: For those of you running DD-WRT, you need to DISABLE "Use DNSMasq for DNS" on the Setup screen, after entering the OpenDNS DNS servers. I spent like 10 minutes trying to fix it. :-[

With dd-wrt, I'd rather be using DNSMasq and not use OpenDNS...dnsmasq caches DNS lookups, so after the first lookup is done for a domain, subsequent lookups are going to be even faster than OpenDNS...

I can use custom blocking options and whatnot with OpenDNS - I like to be able to tinker with options and see what works best.
