Goal Enforcer 1.6: Project/Goal planning made simple.

Price: $29.95
URL:  http://www.goalenforcer.com

GoalEnforcer is based on the principles of human "Working Memory" and "Short Term Memory" in order to maximize the the efficiency of the user's thinking process. It has been known from extensive research that human "Working Memory/Short Term Memory" are optimal to hold around 7 items at a time. GoalEnforcer provides a graphical programming environment through the use of a designer window and a complete set of visual editing tools that can help you show tasks in groups not bigger than 7 at a time (on screen).

GoalEnforcer can be used by:

  • Project managers, to design and monitor projects and tasks.
  • Professors, to schedule teaching plans for students.
  • Students, to help on planning for executing assignments, study plans.
  • Doctors, to set up plans for patient treatment.
  • Contract Workers, to schedule work schedules and report progress to customers
  • Personal Use, to make strategies and planning for personal projects such as
  • studying, house remodeling, garden projects, financial management, weight loss, exercising, improving organization skills

This is one very well thought out program.

I downloaded the demo and took it for a quick test drive.

It starts with an interactive tutorial that takes you step by step through using the programs features & controls. It's even motivational!

The included sample projects seem quite useful.

Samples:

  • GTD
  • Making a pizza
  • Reading a book
  • Building a house
  • Losing weight (makes weight loss look so easy)
  • Writing a report

The color bubbles make it very easy to break things down into simpler parts. It makes bigger tasks look a lot less intimidating. The numbers are easy to follow so you know what order things must be done. And each bubble can become a mini project within your main project, and they can be broken down smaller as well.

Each task can have a starting date and a deadline, and you can add notes, and rate your progress percentage.

You can generate reports.

These reports can be exported as .html or even emailed from within the program.

The color dots serve as a progress indicator:

And there is hotkeys with a nice cheatsheet included, for all you keyboard freaks.

There is even a blog that was recently started to go along with this application and the author encourages you to submit suggestions and articles.

The only bad thing I can see so far is that it's a demo, which has some features disabled, like printing and saving.

I haven't been this excited over a program in a long time. And as broke as I usually am, I usually can't consider software that isn't freeware. This one is an exception. I am that impressed with it. I have to have the full version. I am in awe...and eager to be using this. I'm buying it.

If you give this one a try, please consider giving it a rating and a small review here:

Nice find app - looks like one of those little programs that makes using it fun and intuitive, which is half the battle.

urlwolf, aren't you supposed to be on an app fast for 30 days?  :)

It does look like a very nice app though. Might have to give it a try.

Just an update on my experiences with this program:

After making this post, I emailed the developer to let him know about it.

He showed his appreciation with a free copy. I was quite surprised. I never had anything like that happen to me before.   ;D

He fixed some sort of bug in it recently, and not only did he send every user an email to inform them of this, he sent me a second one, personally, to make sure I knew about the update.

I have created a project I titled "Clean the House" with all that nasty stuff nobody wants to do, but needs to get done.

It's really nice to be able to see my progress in this...I can now accurately say I am 10% finished with the worst of the cleaning in the worst room of the house.  :)

This is so much better than lists.

Hehe, thanks, I see that you are watching over my shoulder :)
The fast ended Oct 23rd. I still haven't installed this app, nor IE7, nor firefox 2.0. Only essencial stuff to survive, like software to record audio from skype (for the interview) and this mindmap thing because it was used by a photoreading program that I'm trying...

Oh, and web log storming, because I won it at the dc draw. :P

really?.... have you tried time doctor time management software it is like a screenshot monitoring software?

My team has just been asked to install and use it. This kind of software appears harsh. It tracks 100% of time worked, as well as www-sites like facebook.com. I'm kind-of pissed about using it. Is it legal in the USA to ask people to download this sort of software?

Good thing they have a demo version that we can download so we can try. You know it's best if there is really a demo version because we can really test drive it rather than relying with those screenshots--though they look really good. I mean the UI seems refreshing.

Anyways, would also like to share some other alternatives which you can see a list here: http://www.timedocto...oftware-alternatives This might be something good as an initial evaluation for the tool you are looking for since it lists the features that the tool provides and also the price. But prices don't really matter as long as you are getting what you pay for.
