IDEA: Smart Directory Filer
(1/1)
mouser:
I know there has been another request here before about a related thing, so maybe this idea can be combined with others.
In this case im thinking of a tool that would be useful for automatically making subfolders and filing files, based on overlap of filenames.
so for example, if i have in my dir:
Muisc\
dylan - 01 - boots of spanish leather
dylan - 02 - ring of fire
dylan - 03 - isis
heart of glass - blondie
dennis - blondie
the tide is high - blondie
and we ran the tool, it would result in:
Muisc\
dylan\
dylan - 01 - boots of spanish leather
dylan - 02 - ring of fire
dylan - 03 - isis
blondie\
heart of glass - blondie
dennis - blondie
the tide is high - blondie
OR alternatively:
Muisc\
dylan\
01 - boots of spanish leather
02 - ring of fire
03 - isis
blondie\
heart of glass
dennis
the tide is high

Hi Mouser
This was listed in Snapfiles a while ago and grabbed my interest, but I never really tested it
It appears to match all the requirements.

from the makers of 'Adobe Reader Speed-Up' that is/was popular.
Freeware.
*edit*
of course theres always 'The Godfather' if its just MP3s

fileseive is interesting but as far as i can tell it really doesnt do what i want.
it creates subdirectories based on alphabet, like \A\, \B\ and sortes based on starting letter of file name.
where im looking for something smarter.
