Information about Backup4all 2.3.2
tinjaw:
If possible, can somebody here shed some light if Samba support has improved with the latest version of Backup4All or knows about another freeware solution?

If you are already running a CentOS box, Veign had a good suggestion.

I think that I've had a lot of hair pulling because of this: my backups live on a Synology NAS and the only way to get B4A to work somewhat regularly was to use a local temp folder and alternate zipping (which is not what the Help file suggests) >:(
I'll have to test it again, but last go worked :)

... B4A does of course support Unicode, but not FULLY.-Curt (March 30, 2008, 12:28 PM)

To my big chock I was wrong again: Backup4All does NOT support Unicode at all!!! :o
Hi,
1. Backup4all does not support Unicode.
To set Backup4all not to show any messages in such cases, please go to Tools->Options->Backup.
Clear (uncheck) "Show file warnings" option. Click OK.
2. To back up file names with other characters than English, please read this article: http://www.backup4all.com/kb/entry/126/
3. To back up without using zip compression, please use the Mirror backup type.
Here is a video tutorial about how to do that: http://www.backup4all.com/kb/entry/200/
If you still have problems, please let us know.

To pull up a slightly old thread...
I really do like Backup 4 all and purchased it at full price a while back when looking for a decent backup to a NAS.
But the software will be in Bits Du Jour on Monday 21 JUL ‘08
