It seems the best choice as it's the most popular/used. Adding another if this one doesn't suffice shouldn't be that much of an issue? As they aren't backward compatible in any way, why worry?

My strategy for resisting installing plugins is:
  • Don't install lots of junk
  • Each plugin is one more thing to worry about maintaining, security patches, etc.
  • Don't install a plugin that isn't very well regarded/trusted, and/or can be verified by me looking at code to be safe and unlikely to be exploited
  • Don't install multiple plugins that do the same job just for the fun of giving people lots of choices
  • Keep bloat to a minium
  • Prefer simple over complex
  • Prefer plugins that are actively maintained and updated
  • Prefer open source over proprietary; but am willing to purchase plugins as last resort

But given that baseline of resistance, if there is a plugin members need, I will install it.  A table plugin seems reasonable, I'd just like to try to pick the right one.
TablePress looks pretty good so I'm leaning towards it.

TablePress plugin is now installed. Have at it!

Note:  The TablePress plugin is more useful for heavy duty tables where you may want to edit it more flexibly, or provide searching and sorting functionality.

If you just want a simple table, I have also installed the TinyMCE advanced plugin which provides some simple insert and visual editing of tables, as well as shortcodes ultimate which can do something similar.

The password protection has been removed from http://www.dcmembers.com so everyone can access it now.
Hopefully this will light a fire under the members who have pages there to get them updated!

I'm really happy with the new members system.. If for example you look at skrommels page on the new member server, I think it is much improved.
However we could use some alternative but suitable wordpress "themes" to let the members express their personalities better.  I've tried a bunch but didn't find many that fit well.  If we have people who are interested it might be nice to see people take the theme we are using (a slightly modified version of Themelia) and try some customization (beyond the color customizations offered built into the theme).

Looks great mouser
just looked as Skrommels pages so far -- the listing and individual pages are really nice
FWIW, the home page is a bit barren** -- I initially wasnt sure what to click on in order to get info about the software (=>downloads)

** maybe the homepage is meant to be a blog type page?

Yes by default it is set up to show a blog, but for member pages without a blog they can just use homepage.

Now when you say the homepage is a bit barren -- which homepage are you referring to? url?

Thanks for saying so -- I really do hope the new system is an improvement over the old pages (you can search, leave comments, etc.).

It lacks a bit of the personality of the old pages, at least so far, but the improvement in maintainability cannot be overstated.  That's the BIG thing.
And now skrommel (or any helpers he designates), can add his new apps and updates to his site. Previously it was just too much trouble to update the page.

^ I like it, the way it looks, but more importantly, how accessible it is: with skrommels software is much easier to actually see what's going on -- it was much too cluttered before.

Now when you say the homepage is a bit barren -- which homepage are you referring to? url?
http://www.dcmembers.com/skrommel/
I see the text below was added since, which solves the problem
If you’re looking for my software, jump to the Downloads page.

Just confirming that domain name mapping for the new dcmembers pages works well and is fairly easy to set up.  That means that your normal url will be
http://www.dcmembers.com/YOURSITENAME
but that we can easily park any domain you want at that address so that your dcmembers site and pages will be available at
www.WHATEVERYOUWANT.com
.  Easy to change or remove it as well if your plans change.

There is some discrepancy between https://www.donation...ftware/friends-of-dc (linked to in Software menu in DonationCoder header's)
and https://www.dcmembers.com/

Oh and feel free to move me from the inactive to active list on dcmembers.

Awesome.  Updated you to active on the dcmembers.com page; are you ready for your close-up (entry on friends of dc page)?

Is the friends of DC page only for those pages hosted on the DC servers?

No, not necessarily.  It's basically for folks who are long time/active dc community members, who are primarily free-for-home-use/donationware coders, and share their software development news on our site.  Essentially, coders who we are recommending and who hang out here.

Just a note for folks that have pages at the new dcmembers server:
http://www.dcmembers.com

I've solidified the process for how to set it up so users have their own domain name for their section, and it's pretty painless (and reversible).

So if you are a coder with a dcmembers section, and want to register a domain name, instead of the default dcmembers.com/username, and use that, just let me know.  (we can make the old urls redirect to the new).

As an example, see hamradio's pages (they now redirect to their own domain name):
http://www.dcmembers.com/hamradio

[note: you'll still have to use the multi-user wordpress system we've set up on the member server for your site -- that restriction is what makes it feasible to keep these sites online forever and maintain so many accounts]

I'm going to try updating a bunch of stuff on the member server.. what I could use help with is checking that I don't break anything on member pages.. Can folks who have a page on dcmembers report in here so we can check and make sure your pages are all showing as they should?

Probably the most important thing to check is any plugins you are using.

The reCAPTCHA on the Contact Forms appear messed up and a note in it:

API keys for reCAPTCHA v3 are different from those for v2; keys for v2 don’t work with the v3 API. You need to register your sites again to get new keys for v3. For details, see reCAPTCHA (v3).

Try now.

Not seeing the reCAPTCHA on my contact form now but am seeing the info bottom right about it.  When trying to submit "There was an error trying to send your message. Please try again later."

Working now.
