I just type .exe or .doc or whatever.
You probably know that search is limited in Options, you can add folders IIRC (havent changed my settings in a long time).

Also,you could do worse than use Everything.

The search is still slow. An indexing feature will be great.

I believe it's a possiblity. But currently, for real searching that needs to be fast, Everything is probably the best solution.
There is a plugin which integrates it with FARR if you wanted that, not sure how well it works -

and if you have UAC problems:

just to add what others have said earlier.. for my Win7 64-bit, i used this guide to launch Farr and Everything (version 1.2.1.451a) in admin mode without UAC prompt and TinyEv just works! :)

Note also that FARR is not unicode aware (but Everything is).
