Windows 10 to reach end of life in 2025

(1/1)

KynloStephen66515:
Microsoft has revealed the end of life date for its latest operating system, Windows 10. The soon to be released OS will reach its end of life support date on the 14th of October 2025, despite previous reports suggesting that Windows 10 would be the ‘final’ version.

The new end of life date was revealed on the Windows life-cycle fact sheet, which shows that mainstream support for Windows 10 will end on the 13th of October 2020, with extended support set to end five years later. After this date, Microsoft will no longer provide regular updates for the software or any technical assistance.

Hmm, I have to wonder what inspires the correlation between the birth of President Dwight David Eisenhower and the death of operating systems.  Anyway, talk about killjoys.  The thing isn't even out yet and they are arranging the funeral.  It gets curiouser all the time.

The screwed up thing is...if any of the coders here said "Oh hey, check out my new software...it will only cost you $X.....oh yeah...I won't support it or longer than X years, regardless of how many of you are using it, or how much money it has made me...I will jus make a new one and make you pay for that"....how long would we last in the game?

Deozaan:
This is the standard lifetime for Microsoft OSes.

Whenever a Real Estate agent presented me with a "Standard Lease" to sign, I knew I was getting screwed.  The only reason it is "standard" is because the attorneys for the other parties to the contract built in every advantage they could devise for themselves, and every disadvantage they could for me.

Mainly they rely on there being no alternative.
