CHS on Linux
MilesAhead:
Hey Miles. Funny coincidence, but one of the references to tech-saavy Windows guys I was thinking of was the fascinating thread over at SF which you participated in, which I'm reading right now.

Heh. I hate to admit I've forgotten more about Linux that I remember. It has been quite a while since I did more than install and take a look in a VM. :)

I'm switching a friend on an older box over to Linux. Tired of trying to make W7 work speedily. I've got Puppy Bang on it now, and it's very impressive for speed. I might switch to Lubundu though, for the sake of a smoother ride.

I'm not sure what distro I would use. But it would be Debian based. I always struggled installing programs back in the RedHat 6.x days. When I got Mandrake 9.1 it made life so much easier. Advanced Package Tool was an order of magnitude improvement on RPM. Perhaps not totally RPM's fault. I think on the APT side there was much more agreement what directories stuff should go in.
