Simpler tax forms? Intuit says NO!

Yesterday was Tax Day for those of us who live and work in the USA – the day by which you need to file your income tax return with the IRS.  If you wonder why the process is so complicated, don’t blame the agency, which would actually like to make it easier for most taxpayers (and itself).  It seems that the main roadblock to simplifying the way taxes are filed is a massive lobbying effort by Intuit, the makers of TurboTax software, which has spent over $13 million dollars over the past 5 years lobbying against reform.

They are currently trying to scare everyone into using their cloud solution for QuickBooks. Sorry I don't want to store all my data in the cloud thanks very much!

Innuendo:
This makes perfect sense. Tax filing software is a huge money-maker for companies. If the forms were easy to fill out then people wouldn't feel the need to give companies like Intuit and H&R Block $40-50 dollars every year for the software itself and the $10-20 for the privilege to file electronically.

Carol, this has nothing to do with QuickBooks (yet). Fortunately for you, you don't have to be subjected to American tax season every year.

Here in Denmark they have simplified the system very much over the years. Most people can fill out their tax form online in a few minutes.
