Memory lane for motorists
« on: February 01, 2015, 06:02 PM »
I wonder how many of us have owned how many of these.

[Originally, I managed to post a bad link. My apologies, it's been corrected.  :-[  Nobody actually called me the name that first occurred, which is another measure of the rampant civility on DC.]

@mouser drives the point home...hur, hur hur.
I think the correct URL should probably be just up to the end of the string "history": http://www.carophile...nged-history/http://
(How did it get the "wrong" suffix?)

Looks like some fine cars on those pages, starting with one of my fav drool cars - the AC Cobra.   :-*

Interesting collection. I've only owned 4 of these (Integra, Cherokee, Corolla, Beetle) but I've ridden in another dozen or so. :-)

That's a lovely car.

You have only to stop for a moment and think about who posted it  ;D
The URL field comes up helpfully, with "http://" already present. I must have inserted my link before that rather than overwriting it <sigh>

I hate sites that provide only slide shows rather than letting you see a list of the items, and life is too short to step one-by-one through 100 slides.

For several years, I drove a 1974 Fiat 124 Sport Spider.  Lots of fun to drive, not so much to tune the dual points carburetor.

Agree. But  that's how it works when you get ad revenue for each page visited.

I went through 10 or so out of curiosity before I quit. These were all well outside my self-imposed price range.

Guess I'm just not that into it. My GF, however, would have probably run through the entire list. Unlike me, she actually likes cars. And she's not immune to the automotive siren's song of 'fine motoring.' (In many respects we're as opposite as they come. ;D)

The Fiat 500 wasn't that expensive  :)  (mouser would have liked it)

They were flogging the Austin Mini for £600 when it first appeared. Of course, one had to fit a rubber glove over the HT leads and distributor cap as the distributor was placed right behind the front grille, and it's been known to rain now and then in England.  :o

My wife had a fully restored 1972 Super Beatle a 'few' years back. That was a seriously fun car to drive Surprisingly quick, and everybody loved it.

I learned to drive a stick in a '72 Super Beetle Sun Bug. The great thing about that is it forces you to get a good feel for clutching and shifting from day 1. I've driven several manual transmission vehicles since then where the owner told me it was touchy or tricky and never had a problem.

The most fun part was driving it on snow and ice. Since I was working an evening shift, the roads were basically empty when I drove home. The (lack of) weight, and weight distribution lets you get away with some stupid driving in it.

The sunroof was an odd bonus. I once hauled some cheap assembly-required furniture home by sticking the box through the top. It stuck out almost 2 feet. Now I wish someone had taken a picture of me standing on the roof pulling it back out.
