(1/4) > >>

Stoic Joker:
Okay, granted it has been a rather long week, but this does look to be a legit Email, and I am subscribed to a list for security update notifications.

"due to changing governmental policies concerning the issuance of automated electronic messaging" ... WTF?!?

wraith808:
Well the page has changed for notifications.

Cached: http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/security/dd252948.aspx

New: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/security/dd252948.aspx

So, there's something to it...

Update:

It's apparently due to a new Canadian anti-spam law.

Oh Yeah! This sounds like a good time (...Not!):
Per the new Canadian law, those that break the new convenant will face severe fines and penalties. Per Katt Stearns...
• Your business will be fined up to $10,000,000
• Your CEO, and each officer, may be fined up to $1,000,000
• Your Marketing Agency may be fined up to $10,000,000
• You, as an individual, may be fined $10,000

If you're not worried about this new law, you haven't been adequately information.

This is just impossible to not abuse. Let the witch hunt begin!

wraith808:
Again, short-sighted legislation without an understanding of technology.  And the fact that this will cross country boundaries... wow.

• You, as an individual, may be fined $10,000

And... more wow.  I see what they were going for but... wow.

Can someone remind me again why we have government? They sure as heck seem to cause a lot more problems than they solve.

But who will build the roads?

Oh, that's right...

People.

[Bob Slydell and Bob Porter are interviewing Tom]

Bob Slydell: What you do at Initech, is you take the specifications from the customers and you bring them down to the software engineers?

Tom Smykowski: Yes. Ye...yes. That...that's right.

Bob Porter: Well, then I just have to ask, why couldn't the customers just take them directly to the software people, huh?

Tom Smykowski: Well, I...I'll tell you why. Uh, because engineers are not good at dealing with customers.

Bob Slydell: Uh-huh. So, you physically take the specs from the customer?

Tom Smykowski: Well, no, my, my secretary does that, or the fax.

Bob Slydell: Ah.

Bob Porter: So, then you must physically bring them to the software people.

Tom Smykowski: Well...no. Yeah, I mean, sometimes.

Bob Slydell: What...what would you say you do here?

Tom Smykowski: Well, look, I already told you. I deal with the goddamn customers so the engineers don't have to. I have people skills. I am good at dealing with people! Can't you understand that? What the hell is wrong with you people?!

Yeah. Something like that. But in the real world Tom clubs the customers half to death on a good day.
