Breaking madden - fun video game experiment

(1/1)

mouser:
An entertaining experiment (with lots of animated gifs) where someone took a football video game and pitted some lopsided teams against each other.

I'd like to see more experiments with "breaking" video games.

Over the course of the season, I've discovered lots of different ways to hack Madden NFL 25 into a thing that no longer resembles football as we know it. I've played around with rules, injury settings, all manner of player ratings, player dimensions, and anything else the game's developers have made available to us.

This time is special, though, because I'm pulling out every single one of the stops at the same time. No other scenario I've built in Madden has been so abjectly cruel or unfair; no other scenario has even been close.

Innuendo:
Every game that lets you tweak the settings to that extent can be 'broken' quite horribly. A really good example of this is Bethesda's Elder Scrolls games. While very entertaining, a determined person can 'game' the system and then you've got an over-powered character running around in the game environment.

I can see how this would be fun for all of five minutes. Once the novelty of 'Hulk smash!' wears off I think I'd become bored very quickly.

This. Skyrim becomes hilariously broken in seconds with a little bit of console codes and maybe some amusing mods.

Most any games break in a spectacular fashion when modded though, talented coders and modders can do some amazing things even with the worst of game engines.

I don't think console commands are a "real" part of the game. TES:Morrowinds alchemy and enchantment mechanics where really poorly thought out though, alchemy especially. Because it allowed you to temporarily increase your alchemy skill by using it. Allowing a positive feedback loop that could "temporarily" increase your other stats for so long that it was practically permanent.
