Backing up data without any users logged on
« on: November 29, 2013, 01:21 PM »
Hello All

I'd like to be able to schedule a backup to run as soon as the computer is on and/or at scheduled times.

The idea here is to have it happen whether some specific users are logged on or not.

- It's a simple client/desktop.
- The OS is windows Vista.
- The account where this happens (if there needs to be one) should be password protected

Is this possible ? If it is, what's the best way to do it?

Thanks a lot.

hi Armando,
I dont use Syncovery (SFFS) this way but it can do what you want (and I do have the service installed)

How can I make sure the scheduler starts automatically?
[...]
Method 2 (using the Syncovery Service – Windows only)

The main advantage of the Syncovery Service is that it runs even when no user is logged on. However, it is more difficult to set up and since it runs as an invisible service, it is less intuitive. For example, it can’t prompt the user in case an FTP password has changed, or when there is a SmartTracking conflict.

Using the service can fix some “Access Denied” problems because it normally runs with more privileges than the main program GUI.

You will find more information on the service here.

I imagine there might be other backup apps that do this as well.
Tom

EDIT// the beta of Bvckup 2 runs as a service too - only syncs though.

Ah Tomos! I didn't think about the service avenue. Let me have a look at Bvckup 2 and maybe Syncovery -- more $$ but if it meets my needs better (some kind of versioning would be handy), why not. Thank you so much.
I will report back.
