For the past decade, Leonard Susskind, one of America’s pre-eminent physicists, has taught a series of six courses in Stanford’s Continuing Studies program.  The series “explores the essential theoretical foundations of modern physics,” helping lifelong learners (like you) attain the “theoretical minimum” for thinking intelligently about modern physics.

Susskind’s popular lectures found a new home of sorts with the launch of The Theoretical Minimum, a new web site that presents the six courses in a way that’s neat, clean and easy to navigate. The site also offers a short text summary of each lecture, plus related reference materials.

There also appears to be a book -- one reviewer mentioned that getting the errata had been very helpful for them.

That looks really interesting!

For my own physics lusts, I wish that there were a series on plasma cosmology like that. It takes an electric view of the universe and explains it differently than mainstream physics. They end up with some really interesting propositions, and have actually had predictions come true where modern physics has failed.

It's really kind of cool as it shows just how little we know about reality.

I think you may find it challenging to locate physicists who will risk being publically associated with models that are too far away from the mainstream -- even if they are willing to entertain them in private.

True.

Though one plasma cosmologist recently won an award at a physics conference. I forget exactly where - it was in Europe somewhere. Belgium? Denmark? He was very surprised and was even expecting to be ejected from the conference and ridiculed.

So, we still do get pleasant surprises every now and then.
