I heard that, back when genetic engineering was hot and every hastily-created new company had to have some element of "genetic" in its name, the Italian government wanted to set up a state one. It was to have been called "Genitalia."
In similar vein, there's a story that when Idi Amin was megalomaniac dictator of Uganda, he hatched a plan to rename Uganda "Idiland." Until some brave soul pointed out that people who live in Cyprus are called "Cypriots"...
