Your favourite Windows Shell Enhancements
« on: April 13, 2006, 08:00 PM »
Hi,

just wanna know your favourite Windows Shell Enhancements. Windows Shell Enhancement are tools which integrate directly in the Windows Explorer. I have only running 3 on my machine but I find them tremendously useful.

1) PixVue (http://www.pixvue.com/) - let you add and edit EXIF and ITPC Data directly through the Explorer. After the Installation the Explorer is capable to read such metadata and displays it in the "details" view - so you can sort images by their keyword for example. PixVue offers even more functions such as "Galleries" and Slideshows...

2) FirmTools ShellExtension (http://free.firmtool....com/shellextension/) for displaying image previews in the contextmenu (usefull when you have dozens of images laying around on your desktop)

3) NTTools - offering "CopyFilename" and "Open Comandline here" functions - very very handy :)

I think there are a lot of other Extensions out there - which do you know, and / or use?

ciao

hi crono,

there is a thread here with some quite useful shell extensions...

btw, DC's long-awaited (*hint* *hint*, mouser) ContextMenu Commander thread, which also lists a variety of context-menu enhancers.

KoApproach (http://www.koapproach.com) - Allows you to view the contents of a folder by simply clicking on it and holding down the button used to click it while on the icon of the folder.

EDIT: If you configured Windows to require a single-click to open files/etc., simply hover over it for a couple of seconds.

Useless, but fun. Brand your context menus!!
http://www.virtualpl...ml/ui_cntxt_dll.html
Allows you to put a custom bitmap at the tail of your menus.
