What is Mozilla trying to do?

Politely said, going from Firefox version 4 to version 6, has been painless.
I didn't notice any changes at all.
Is it a little faster? Maybe.

I think Thunderbird has improved quite a bit, going from 4 to 6. ;-)

Thunderbird 5 had already fixed a few bugs for me and looks a lot better I find. Havent used #6 yet really.

Just an occasional plug-in no longer working because of the version checks built in. Same as from FF4 to FF5. But the (plug-in)updates are usually quick and painless.

Can't see much improvement going from FF5 to FF6 either.

Firefox 6.0

Following rapidly on the heels of Firefox 5.0, Firefox 6.0 is the most recent "major" release of Firefox, arriving in August 2011. However strictly speaking it is not a major release in terms of new features or any noticeable changes. Instead the new version numbering system is evidence of Mozilla's accelerated release strategy, and the changes are primarily under the hood in the form of performance improvements and bug fixes. The most significant changes in Firefox 6.0 include:

The Address Bar now highlights the domain name within a URL.
The Site Identity Block next to the URL has been streamlined.
Startup time has been reduced when using Panorama.
A new per-site Permissions Manager interface accessible by typing About:Permissions in the Address Bar.
Added support for the latest WebSockets, EventSource/server-sent events, window.matchMedia, and Scratchpad.
The Web Developer menu under the Firefox button now has all development-related items.
Firefox Sync is now more clearly promoted with a separate 'Set Up Sync' item under the main Firefox button.

Try installing Mr Tech Toolkit from http://www.mrtech.com/extensions/toolkit.xpi which allows overriding version checking on an extension by extension basis.

-works with Firefox 8.01 (By the way, Firefox 9 Final is being launched right now).
