Improving Region Select Capture Mode

I'm on record as much preferring to do a full screen grab and then cropping from within the program, but I know a lot of people prefer to use the "Grab Selected Region" mode which shows a crawling-ants rectangular border that you use to select a rectangular region to capture.

Over time people have requested improvements to the selected-region capture operation.

So I'm trying to decide what kind of improvements I can make to it now, without going overboard.

I'd like to hear from people who actually use this capture mode -- and what they think would make life easier for them.

Some suggestions in the past have been:

* Show a crosshairs line from top to bottom and left to right of entire screen where cursor is.
* Dim outside the selected region.

Just so we have a starting point -- this beta includes new crosshairs already.
