Free Visual Studio 2005

Just arrived in the post.

It cost me (well my mum actually) CAD$28 (about £12 in the UK) to post as there is a hefty 500 page book thrown in too called Moving to ASP.NET 2.0 which provides an introduction (and is excerpted from ASP.NET 2.0 Core Reference).

Full versions of all the programming languages but doesn't include the full SQL (it uses SQL Express) and doesn't come with team programming stuff or FoxPro. Also includes a complete MSDN library (but no updates to the library ... but you can read it online anyway).

There is also a free exam voucher (valid world wide) if you want to do MCP exams in "MS .NET Framework 2.0 - Web-based Client Development"

Not bad for a freebie - and for US/Canadian customers there is a coupon for $400 off an MSN Professional subscription.

This offer is still valid till September 30, 2006, although they have changed it to include a 90 day trial of VS2005 Professional, rather than a free VS2005 Standard.  :(

When I took advantage of the offer it stated free VS2005 Standard. I still haven't recieved my copy. I am hoping that it doesn't mean that I will recieve the trial version instead.

I just got mine today and it was the 2005 Standarad (NFR) version.  I registered back on... 6/15, so if you did it before then you're probably good, but you can download the 90 day trial of Pro here on M$'s website.

Microsoft is really good with free stuff and giveaways. I got a Visual Studio 2005 Standard for free at SIC. I haven't opened it yet, but will probably get a new computer in the next couple months and then turn this box into a file server and secondary dev. box with that on here and my Pro version on the new box.

If you have a chance to get to any dev. type conferences with MS as a sponsor - go. It may well be worth it for you for more than a few reasons.

Agreed, thats how I got my MSDN Universal subscription. Was at PDC 2005 and it was one of the giveaways!
