Nice tutorial discusses how to set up your computer so you can securely access it from coffee shops etc, while you are away from home.

hamachi looks like a pretty decent app, but I don't like ther lack of in-depth information about how they handle things... The connection itself is direct and once it's established no traffic flows through our servers. - that statement (from http://www.hamachi.cc/howitworks) sounds very problematic to me - I can't see how this could work when both sides are behind NAT.

I don't like the idea you have to connect to their servers. Is there one without connection to third party servers?

nontroppo:
I use SSH and VNC; CopSSH is good and free SSH server for windows - if you want to pay cash then WinSSHD is an amazingly well coded and thought out SSH server. Then you can tunnel a VNC connection over the secure SSH connection. But that is NOT "zero-configuration"! ;)

Regarding the connection - I believe they negotiate initially via the server which ports they can tunnel their protocol through, though more details would be nice. The point is they are very clear and open about their security mechanism and encryption. It would be easy to check their claim that there is no traffic to their servers using ethereal...
