I'd love to have an app that allows you to auto-mount an .ISO file on doubleclick, copy its contents to a folder, unmount the .ISO and automatically delete it.

Does anyone else think this type of utility might come in handy?

Thanks in advance guys :)

It's not automated, but there's a plugin for total commander that allows you to open/view ISO files like any other folder or archive.

You can't modify the image, but files can be copied out without a problem

I assume this functionality is available in other file managers as well...

I've been using this for double-click image mount:

http://wincdemu.sysprogs.org/

Once it's mounted, you can use my Tray utility to unmount just by selecting the drive letter radio button and clicking the Open Button. Or you can just right click the mounted image in Explorer and click Eject.

My Tray app is on the front page of my site:

afa copy to folder ordinary explorer drag & drop works fine.

One caution about these image mounters, if you try to access with multi-threaded app such as a multi-threaded video converter or multiple instances of a video converter they can often hang.  Still the emulator is a nice free utility. Once installed I forgot about it. I had to dig it out to remember the name of it. :)

I'm not totally sure about this, but IIRC WinRar does extract .iso files. So, if you have winrar installed, you can right-click the image and select "extract here" and then delete it after it has extracted.

(nevermind) :)
