Anybody know Depeche View?

sajman99:
odd pricing for the extended edition, I think.

$20 is of course okay, but it only include updates for six months!
And they don't imply any rebate for upgrading.

Curt, I agree those terms are much too limited. I will email the developer Vincent Stahl to see if he will address these concerns.

sajman99:
Hi,

I received a response from the developer Vincent Stahl (and he granted permission for me to post it here). He seems a nice chap receptive to feedback on his software.

(1) Regarding the six month free upgrade term of Depeche View Extended Edition--have you considered extending it?
As is, the term seems unduly restrictive for paid software.

--Not yet. I think 20 Dollars is extremely cheap, therefore paying 40 Dollars per year- if you really want the latest features - is not too much.

(2) Suppose the customer upgrades beyond the initial free upgrade term (whatever it may be), would there then be any options besides paying
full price again?

--I'm thinking of a price increment to at leat 30 Dollars for a long time now, and sooner or later I'll have to do so, as DView is not a mass product.
It targets software developers who pay at least $10 for their lunch every day. And when I implement this price increase, I may rethink the
free upgrade period, and maybe even an option for reduced upgrade costs.

If you have examples for other software, like text editors or search tools, I'm always interested in reading through their pricing and upgrade
conditions for a comparison. But as far as I see, for example, most commercial text editors are more expensive than Depeche View.

With best regards,

So if anyone has feedback, send your thoughts to Mr. Stahl. Or post 'em right here as he is aware of this thread.
