Quora invite request
« on: June 17, 2010, 06:02 PM »
Just posting this here in case I don't get one from Hacker News:

Quora is already Google Useful

Is the spare invite offer available for those who don't regularly contribute to Hacker News?

Damn, I'm not that confident with putting any real profile online though. I wonder if they would eventually open up for fake online personalities.

Btw my e-mail: piecesoffish at gmail

I have been a Quora member for awhile and do have invites to give away.

Any member that wants an invite, just PM me your request, along with an email address to send it to.

You have to use your real name to set up the account, but you can ask, answer, and follow questions anonymously.

Damn. That is probably the biggest hurdle for my invitation.

Well I don't have any expertise anyway, I just want to ask, ask and ask.  :P

Could you share some perspective of how good the community of that site is?

It's a high quality site. I would compare it more to Wikipedia than Yahoo Answers.

Of course there are some dumb questions there, and ones asked just to be funny, but for the most part it's a serious site and quite good.

Quora is now open to the public. No invites needed. If you want to join, you can now sign up on your own:

Previously, there were two ways to register for Quora. You could either get an invitation from an existing user, or you could enter your email address in the box on our home page, and we'd invite you as soon as we scaled our capacity up.

We've gotten to the point where we are confident that we can integrate new users as they sign up and maintain the quality of the site, and so we are opening up registration today. However, we put quality ahead of growth as a priority, and so we will change plans and limit registration as necessary to achieve that goal.

Thanks! I'm going to try logging in with my fake name and see how far I last.
