FARR Alias "f"
« on: October 11, 2008, 07:04 PM »
I'm wondering about the alias triggered by "f", which I looked through the aliases list to find that it's supposed to look up processes running in the background. When I type in an entry such as "firefox.exe" it takes me to http://file-extensio...xtension_firefox.exe. It says I should click on a link to find out more about that process, but it takes me to http://www.liutiliti...eextensionseeker/rb/, which tries to sell me a product named Uniblue RegistryBooster.

In the alias section of FARR it shows the following in the "results" window.

File Extension Seeker (Example: txt) - $$1 | http://file-extensio.../filename_extension_$$1 /ICON=icons\file_ext_seeker.ico
FILExt / File Extension (Example: txt) - $$1 | http://filext.com/de...llist.php?extdetail=$$1 /ICON=icons\filext.ico

I like the idea of using FARR to look up background processes, but this just seems like spam; and I know that FARR would never intentionally that. So is there anyone out there with the same problem, or have suggestions/advice, etc.?

As usual, any help or suggestions are very much appreciated!
Kind Regards,
Daniel in Tulsa

This is the "fileinfo" alias, activated by typing something like:
fileinfo mdb
and it tells you about the .mdb file extension.

These are both sites for giving info on FILE EXTENSIONS.. we probably should add some more items to that fileinfo alias that return info about specific files like "system.dat" not just file extensions.

If anyone has any recommendations let me know.

the second site in the alias, http://filext.com has the following text on this site: "Filext.com is a free online resource by Uniblue". for me, having Uniblue on-board is bad enough so i edited the alias to remove it.

also the other site, http://file-extension.net (which is by DC member Mark0 incidentally) has had some changes in the search query so the current one in Farr wouldn't work. so i updated the search query as well.

please find attached the zip file containing the changes. To install, unzip and copy the files into Farr's Core Alias folder. This folder by default is normally like this:
C:\Program Files\FindAndRunRobot\AliasGroups\Installed\Core_Aliases

please let me know if anything gets broken because of this new alias. ;)

Edit1: re-uploaded due to a typo. (MD5: 719BBD672E31A0FA70F8FE2C7C0D0BE1)

I hope these changes will be included in the next release? :)
