-because "/" on my keyboard is Shift+7; meaning it is not "the default".

Curt, I see you are discussing Findbar Basics from way back in 2009. I have since moved on to the more versatile and configurable Find Toolbar Tweaks v3.0:

It does everything Findbar Basics did and then some. :)

-it was a stressful evening, so I escaped by creating an Addons for Waterfox project...
I clearly must have customized my previous Firefox a lot, because I am now sitting with Waterfox, thinking Where is everything?

The keyboard shortcut for "find next" (F3) doesn't work for Find Toolbar Tweaks in later FF versions...  :(

I switched to Findbar Tweak which has some nice features, but it messed up the layout on some pages.
