I am using Text Link add-on to open URLs that are in plain text. Just double click on the text and the link opens.

Interclue 1.5 - Your Personal Link Preview Multitool

Before you click the link

Hover your mouse pointer over the link, and a Linkclue icon will appear.

Rest your mouse on the icon, and up pops an enhanced summary of the linked page.

Interclue can give you:

    * A text content summary
    * A small snapshot of the page
    * Sizes and dates of linked files
    * Usefule stats and metadata
    * Next actions - save, email...
    * And more. Check the options!

Neat! One of the most useful add-ons I have come across in a long time.

Seems useful but doesn't it have to interact with the server and perform the action involved to give you a true preview?

cmpm:
Cooliris does basically the same thing.
If there are differences maybe someone has tested both.

Here's an interesting one and one I could make use of.

http://www.dejaclick.com/

It does add a toolbar though.
It can be hidden though.
