As far as I can read on wiki, they are popular on Japan (on billboards).

I really like an idea like this:
1. you're walking on the street and see nice ad,
2. you take a photo of that and start reader app,
3. whoosh... you're on product's website.

It is definitely better than trying to type URL.

On the other hand: QR Codes might provide other usefull information (take a look on sample ZXing frontend).

4wd:
Here's a plugin for Firefox: Mobile Barcoder

Let's you generate a QR Code for the page you're viewing and zap it with your mobile.

Although the use the site gives for it is rather strange, ie. why would you generate a barcode for a site you're browsing with Firefox on a PC just so you can then have the pleasure of squinting while trying to read it on your phone ?

I'd much rather have a plugin that let's me read QR Codes from within Firefox.

I use a similar one as my avatar. The "square code" is just an encoded url, can you find out which? ;)

Hm. Google's reader and some sample applet from japanese site are saying that your avatar contains no data.
I will try firefox extension (2 available).
