too many updates !!!

FARR is great, and it is good to know that it is actively developed.

But installing a new version every other day, is a bit much!  >:(

An option to have the updates auto download and install silently in the background is welcome.

Alternatively you could turn off the automatic checking for updates, or set it to every week.  These options are available.

Hi there,

You aren't forced to install every update. They are cumulative ones.

Feel free to skip one or two until you get the mood to update, are curious about the new features or until you find a nogo bug.

BTW. Using the well configured DonationCoderUpdater, an update for me is only about 10 mouseclicks and 1 min. of my time. Thats sth. i gladly invest in my most used utility. And with that i not only get it installed, i also get a well named setup file in my software archive directory automatically.

I really appreciate that mouser releases every new feature as fast as possible. So i must say, i love the everyday updates.

Just my 2ct.

Is this a joke? I personally  have no complaint about installing newer and better versions.

@Grorgy: I didn't know that you can set it to check every 10 days. I will try this.

@kartal: Don't you think other software is as well continuously improved. How if they would release updates every day, too?

I can see how some people might be annoyed by the frequency of the updates!

But as was pointed out, the best solution to that is to turn off automatic update checking and just check manually (or change update check frequency to several days or weeks).

We have too much fun developing software and getting feedback from users to switch to a slower development cycle :)

So, you're working in tandem?   ;)

(I was glad to hear that you're also working on that comprehensive, lucid, updated help file for FARR  :))

wasn't there separate download links for a 'stable' version and 'development' (aka beta) version? in a way, i'm glad mouser's on a roll. :)

Heh, heh - I usually complain about there NOT being updates to apps that I use. Still, I take pitzelberger's point...

i remember that Farr's development cycle was on a hiatus for about 8 months previously. on another note, herojoker's suggestion here is something to be considered, especially for daily updates.

i think a good thing to do might be to add tags of major/minor/beta for each update, and let dcupdater be configured to ignore certain tagged updates for each program.

I love the many FARR updates! But I can also see the use in such a feature for some people. In general I think something like this is becoming a really important feature for update tools. Though I think the most important tag would be "vulnerability fix/security issue fix". I use filehippos updatechecker to update many programs and some are very frequently updated (notepad++ and ccleaner to mention just two) and most of the time the changes for each update are of no meaning to me. The problem is even greater with firefox add-ons. For many programs/add-ons I would ideally want to get all security fixes and all major revisions and inbetween that perhaps only every 10th update.

Still think this has to be some kind of joke 8). I mean you're actually asking the guy not to update the program as often?? As has already been mentioned several times if you dont want to download updates as frequently or be notified of updates simply change the settings!!

From a development standpoint i think these mini beta updates are great and probably help Mouser isolate new bugs quicker however i am all for a new flag type for beta builds in the updater program which perhaps only notify you of 2.x updates instead of 2.2.x updates.

imho there can't be enough updates, just disable automatic update checking and you'll be just fine. don't stop mouser from improving his great app :-*
