uninstalling the Microsoft Virtual Machine,is it safe?

(1/1)

tinyvillager:
I got all my hardware upgrade fix'ns today and going through with a fresh install. After a fresh install i start modifying
the OS(XP PRo) emediatly, menu's,updates, and crap i don't need or things that have been deamed security hazards,
i.e. Microsoft Virtual Machine.Microsoft actually released a tool to do this, which looks like they pulled, which concerns
me but i've checked Sun's Java site    http://www.java.com/en/download/help/uninstall_msvm.xml and was planning
on using this method.

I guess what i'm asking, has anyone does this and are their any drawbacks?

Carol Haynes:
Windows XP doesn't include Virtual Machine as standard. You can download it from all over the web, but not from MS. It has been a dead project for along time now with no updates. It really should be avoided.

I used to use it but find that Jave RTE is just as good and it is an active project that produces security updates.

Cool, cool,i just downloaded sun's java 1.5.0.5 update and plan to use it.
