Is Your Son a Computer Hacker?

Written with nothing but good intentions but some of the generalizations are rather hilarious.

I'm pretty sure this is satire.

I certainly hope so!  ;D

Read some of the points in a little more detail and *ahem* it rather obviously is.  :-[

Even still, (and as you can attest) it's done so cleverly that it actually comes off as believable! Not that we would believe what he's saying has any truth to it, but we might believe that he believes what he's saying.

It's a really well done piece.

I don't have a son, so no.
The clock is running. Make the most of today. Time waits for no man. Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift. That's why it is called the present.

Ha, I knew I read this story somewhere. And of course it's satire, that was the main point of the site.

Ahahahaha~! :D

Popular hacker software includes "Comet Cursor", "Bonzi Buddy" and "Flash".

The evils of comets and buddies!

If your son has requested a new "processor" from a company called "AMD", this is genuine cause for alarm. AMD is a third-world based company who make inferior, "knock-off" copies of American processor chips.

I knew it! That's the one with "Evil Inside!"

BSD, Lunix, Debian and Mandrake are all versions of an illegal hacker operation system, invented by a Soviet computer hacker named Linyos Torovoltos, before the Russians lost the Cold War.

Zane! You commie! Admit that you're a traitor and we may show you mercy! ;)

I read this article a while back, it is pretty funny when you sit and think about it.

IMO, the best part of the whole thing is the first paragraph in the "article"...

Most American families use trusted and responsible Internet Service Providers, such as AOL.

I couldn't stop laughing the first time I read that :) Trusted and responsible...HA... (no offense to the poor followers of AOL...well, maybe a little... :P)

Also, note the poll at the top right...

I'm scared of hackers because...
   They hack into NASA    5%
   They steal things    4%
   They are violent sociopaths    4%
They use amphetamines and speed    7%
They help Osama Bin Laden    14%
   They're un-American    5%
   They smell bad    58%
;D

I remember seeing this years ago..
(btw, Yes, it was a hoax.)

The funniest thing is/was the comments. They fall into a few categories:
  • People who sarcastically say something along the lines of: Great advice!
  • People who sincerely say something along the lines of: Great advice!
  • people who didn't get the joke, and attack or try to educate the author about how aol is not a trusted and responsible isp, or how it's spelled Linux, not lunix, etc... (I find these the funniest, because they try to be smart, when in fact they turn out to be stupid for not getting the joke)
  • People who got the joke.

:P

There was quite a few similar articles released around that time, along the lines where you wonder, 'is it real or not'. Lovely stuff :D
