what version of XP did you start with edbro - with SP2?

I used a base version of XP before any service packs. I do have another copy that is SP2 but I've heard it is cleaner to slipstream into a "Gold" disk.

cranioscopical:
Installed it on one machine here, so far.

It's been on long enough for me to feel confident that nothing went amiss.

Drivers for fax and scanners and a bunch of USB odds and ends all work fine.
Some things that were problematic with SP2 are behaving themselves.

Backup software is working and verifying okay.

It 'feels' a touch slower on bootup but I didn't bother timing it.

cranioscopical:
I've been following the 'last time I fell face down in a plate of soup
my dodgy mouse came back to life' approach to computer trouble-shooting.

The last time I applied a service pack to XP (SP2) my non-functioning
system restore came back to life.  So, when I applied SP3 I checked to
see if a similar piece of magic occurred.

It didn't.
Now, I need to wipe off this minestrone.

MS withholding the SP3 update because of a last minute 'glitch' - not that anyone will be affected by it!

edbro:

* the TaskBar address Toolbar is still removed (as in the release candidates) - shame but I can live with it. You can always use Windows+R instead-Carol Haynes (April 24, 2008, 08:13 PM)
