strange problem: impossible to launch new windows.
« on: December 22, 2007, 06:11 AM »
My PC sometimes gets to an state where double-clicking on an icon will NOT launch the application at all
I have to log out and back in to start seeing windows again .

It shows the sandclock for about the time it takes to launch the application but the GUI is not rendered at all.

When logging off (and progressively killing all applications) the lagging windows magically appear again (I guess after the OS has killed the process that was causing this strange behavior).

Anyone has a clue on what could be causing this?

That sounds like a resource problem. I think one of our applications has a resource leak. Open the task manager and add the columns for handles and gdi objects. Check if the numbers in these columns grow for one application.

Maybe you can find a clue in the event log, wherever that is hidden...

I think I found it. it was trayIt!, an app to minimize things to the tray.
Thanks

You should probably report that to the developers, and say they might have a GDI handle leak :)

Maybe you're not using the latest version. TrayIt! [4.6.5.5]
