This is a quick and dirty review of
ScreenSteps that is currently on
bitsdujour. I don't have time for a full mini-review, as the discount has 2 hours remaining. Discounted price is $19.9 USD. That purchase gets you all 1.x version of the software (currently at 1.2.1). The program is available for both Windows and Mac.
One registered license can be used on both Win and Mac by a single user.

There may be bugs or other problems with the software that I have not encountered.ScreenSteps helps you create visual tutorials and HOW-TOs on your computer very quickly. You use it like a screen capture program as you perform the steps that you want included in the tutorial. After you are finished with all the steps, you go into the program's interface and add explanatory text to each step. In addition, you can add graphical annotations like arrows, circles, highlighting, numbering, etc to the images. Once you are finished with the steps, the program exports the tutorial to an html file and images or to a PDF.
This could be great for doing quick documentation for your own programs and the like.

This is a plus, because it is easy to learn how to use it. More advanced users may look for more control, and it can be found in customizing of the templates used for the creation of html files. I haven't looked at that yet, but it seems like you can do quite a bit with it from the samples offered by the site:

As I teach 6th graders at a 1:1 laptop school, I am constantly showing them how to do different things with their iBooks. This program will allow me to quickly create tutorials for them to host on my school website.
