Word AutoCompleter

imtrobin:
LetMeType works actually well but when I import the whole dictionary size into it, it takes up more than 60MB ram + it's very slow to load up (a few minutes) :(

Carol Haynes:
Ah - I started blank and it is learning the sort of rubbish I type as it goes along ... I find that kind of neat, and almost entertaining seeing it try to guess what I am likely to type next ;-)

I am quite impressed at how quickly it seems to learn my habits ;)

Bummer though if is going to slow down as it learns more and more, though I suppose when it gets reasonably accurate I can turn off the learn mode.

Having never used this sort of thing before I too would be interested in an efficient alternative (esp. if it had a spell check), but I am not sure I would want to pay a lot of money for it - IntelliComplete looked over priced to me.

I don't know if these are quite the same, but FWIW there's a thing called AllChars mentioned in PricelessWare   http://allchars.zwolnet.com
=== begin quote ===
AllChars also supports macros functionallity: expanding abbreviations into
longer text strings.
Macros support includes secret macros for logins etc. and date/time functions.
=== end quote ===

Also, Two Pilots  http://www.colorpilot.com/index.html  has a freeware called Speed Typing which does shorthand expansion; go to their freeware page to find it.  They offer a more advanced payware version called Type Pilot.

Don't worry, I don't think you will hit the limit if you are using your own words. It was slow when I imported at 500K words into it. I will gladly pay for IntelliComplete if they will solve an annoying bug I encountered.

AllChars and Type Pilots are macro expanders, not quite the same as a dictionary word expander. :(

You can try Typing Assistant.
