Screenshot Captor / Re: Images pasted into onenote are half size
« on: March 20, 2018, 10:12 AM »
Here is my screenshots pasted into Onenote at 96 and 30 dpi for the top and bottom tomos' capture from this website, along with a screenshot of the entire website that was pasted into onenote with a ctrl-v after the screen was captured. As you can see the full page image is tiny compared to the small part of the screen that was captured.
Screenshot - 3_20_2018 , 11_03_42 AM.png

The webpage image looks the right size in Screenshotcaptor though and is totally readable.

Yes I can resize my images in Onenote, but when I have to do that for 50 images or more that gets pretty time consuming.

If I use the screen clipping tool then the image shows up at the correct size in onenote but obviously does not have the border and shadow or any other special effects that I might want to add such as annotating etc.

I'll see if I can find any resources on Onenote for this but I was hoping it was something I could fix in SC.

Screenshot Captor / Re: Chocolatey install for ScreenShot Captor?
« on: March 20, 2018, 09:27 AM »
I did get my own version working as a start. On one of my machines I have my own package - the other I have the official version. The official version installs it ok, but it does not update to the newer version. This is because it's using an old methodology to just grab the original .exe which is always named the same. Newer packages require the name and a checksum and then the chocolatey package needs to be updated with the new version and the new checksum. Haven't had a chance to play with updating that yet but thats the next step.
I haven't heard back from the maintainers so once i've got my internal package working I'll be applying to take it over.

 ;D
Thats good news. The arrows would work for me -
it would be nice to have something similar to the clipart step1 images that we already have (but this is limited to 10 and they're pretty huge needing resizing a lot).
Thanks!

Well I did some more digging over the weekend and it turns out the existing one actually works and brings down the latest version whenever it is run- I'm just not quite sure why the version number is weird. It doesn't do a completely silent install though and should really pull down a particular version of the file so chocolately can check if an update is required.
I've created a new package that fixes the above (but does need to be updated whenever a new version of SC is released. That bit I've not quite worked out how to code around yet......

« on: March 03, 2018, 04:49 AM »
Any chance we could get auto numbering stamps as per https://www.donation....msg392821#msg392821 pretty please?
It would be great if we could customise the shape, colour, border and text colour of the button similar to the arrows. The ability to specify the start number would probably be required too.

thanks

The chocolately install for Screenshotcaptor (https://chocolatey.o...ges/screenshotcaptor) has a suspicious version number listed and has not been updated for 3 years or so.
I'm not sure if this is an official build or not but was wondering if there was any interest in updating/creating a chocolatey package for Screenshotcaptor.

I've not created a package in chocolatey before but if an official version is not available from mouser, then this would be a good exercise for me as I would use it myself (and I'd probably have my own package to install my .ini file for my suggested preferences). I've demoed SC to people and persuaded them to buy it and spend a while setting it up for them in my recommended way,

Thought I had replied on this....
I use SC so that I get the fancy border and shading around my images to get an image that stands out in a document. This way an image like Screenshot - 2_28_2018 , 12_49_34 PM.png doesn't bleed and appear like Screenshot - 2_28_2018 , 12_51_08 PM.png which can bleed into the surrounding background.

My DPI was originally set to 96. I set it to 75 and the images are still showing up tiny in Onenote.
Attachment3 shows a forum post with Onenote's screencap of the image.
Screenshot - 2_28_2018 , 12_57_46 PM.png

I typically just screencap all my images  to files and then once I have captured all the images I then drag and drop them into Onenote where they all show up nicely formatted and in the correct order (as long as my file names are sorted correctly)

Somehow, most of the time when I do a capture (with automated border and drop shadow) and then paste the image into Onenote, my images are about 50% of the original screen as per the screenshot attached.
This makes some of the images hard to read.
Any ideas why this would be the case? I looked to see if I had an option to resample the size by 50% but I am not seeing it...

Screenshot Captor / Re: hotkeys no longer working in version 4.15.2
« on: December 05, 2015, 05:25 AM »
Easy enough, this could actually be useful just for people who occasionally want todo multiple arrows in a row without text -- just because i think by default (there is an option to change this on the Drawing Objects tab) you can't normally draw a bunch of arrows without re-clicking the arrow tool each time.

So I'm thinking the new function will be accessible from the object tools menu, and be something like "Draw and label (step 1, step 2, etc.) multiple arrows..", and then present user with a small dialog with text edit defaulting to "Step #" and the user can accept or change that text (e.g. "Stage #"), and possibly change starting # (useful when continuing from prior labeling) and then it would let you draw one arrow after another, auto labeling them with the proper step #, until you select a new tool.

Any thoughts?
sounds great mouser. I didnt know you could create several arrows in a row. will have to investigate that option too.  An option to do this without the arrows, just numbers would still be useful.

I hardly ever use the clipart so didn't even realise that was there.
Snagit would be 8 clicks for a 7 point step process - one to select the mouse to be a stamp and then 7 more clicks to add the 7 steps.
The current clipart is Select clipart image 1, drag to location, resize, select image 2, drag to location.....

I use the arrows with Text boxes a ton. It's very helpful to be able to provide documentation on the steps required.

Back to the original problem with  hotkeys, my issue seems to have gone away - no more issues with hotkeys going missing for a while now.

I don't have dropbox installed (doesn't work in a corporate domain with folder redirection of appdata) but do have Onedrive (also doesn't work) and did have snagit installed. The only thing I like better about snagit is the ability to add autonumbered stamps to a diagram to show areas that need to be clicked on in a particular order (ie 1...2....3)  Very useful. Currently I draw boxes and arrows between them - this looks better but is slightly more time consuming. (hint hint) ;-)

It *should* work with Win10 64 bit - I put it on my surface yesterday (which doesn't even have a prtscrn button - instead you use Fn space) and it worked.
The activehotkeys was also working for me on my 64bit OS (Win8). Check the program works by setting the checks for the standard keys only (no modifiers) and then press some alpha keys  - they should light up in AHK. Note the prtscn button is displayed as SysReq in this software.

I'm really not sure why the keys stopped working for me for a couple of days and then started working again. Perhaps you have my gremlin?

Ok - this is weird in that it's now working.
I ran the program again this afternoon and now all my hotkeys are working.
Scratching head.....

The hotkeys were listed in both the Hotkeys Standard and also in the Hotkeys-Custom (see screenshot clip.png).
Earlier today, the only ones not working were all of the ptrscr ones listed in the hotkey standards.
We have forefront here and I'm not aware of it causing any issues with hotkeys - it's been a bizarre couple of days but I'm glad to say it's working now.

thanks Mouser.
I used that program to verify that prtscrn by itself is trapped by screenshotcaptor and have managed to get it to show up in screenshotcaptor now ( enabled the show dialog on capture setting to verify this is occurring).
After quitting Screenshot Captor, the active shows N for the shift ptrscreen so it looks like scs is trapping it but not actually processing it

Screenshot Captor / Re: hotkeys no longer working in version 4.15.2

Well a reboot did not fix the issue. I tried using another keyboard and same result, so it is unlikely to be the keyboard itself. Pressing prtscrn or shift prtscreen is capturing all of my windows to the clipboard as when I paste into wordpad I can see the current monitor layout appearing. So now its time to try and work out what app has grabbed the shortcut. Any useful apps you know of that will show me?
I did try reinstalling Screenshot captor with the full install but it still fails to capture the screen via keystrokes.

it's actually the hotkeys not working - the settings are saved, the key presses are just not recognised. However, to test that theory, I set the Capture selected region to Ctrl-Shift-1 and this worked to capture my screen settings.  The standard hotkeys are still saying Shift prtscr, but this does not do anything when I press this combination. Neither do any of the other PtrScr combinations.
Exiting and loading Screenshot Captor did keep my custom hotkey saved though.

On Windows 7,sp1, using the portable version, my hotkeys for screencapturing no longer work for any of the captures modes (ie shift prtscrn, alt-prtscrn etc.
Using the menus to run the capture works, but no hotkeys.
No notifications of conflicting hotkeys is shown (that I'm aware of)
The only thing unusual in my upgrade process is that for some reason I downloaded the regular installer, ran it, realised that wasn't the version I needed, removed it, downloaded the zip file, extracted and then ran the file from the extracted location.
I have made a change to my preferences in the hope this would re-write my preferences. The prefs are still there as far as action after capture, file location, moving files etc.
Any ideas/debugging I can do?

Also the Help/check for updates says my version is newer than the version on the website (4.15.0)

Thanks mouser. I checked this morning and my configdir.ini had everything remmed out. And of course this morning, it's working as designed. No changes were made by me that i'm aware of. Very strange.
Thanks for the help and the excellent program ;-)

I had to blow away my profile after it got corrupt on my computer and I am using the portable screenshot captor (v4.7.2)
When I make changes to my settings and hit apply or accept, everything seems ok.
However when I exit screenshotcaptor, I get a notification window in the notification area at the bottom right of my screen that complains about not being able to write to somewhere on my profile. The problem is that the notification only stays up for about 1/2 second so I don't have time to read the whole message.
Error is "ERROR: settings could not be saved (Saving final, really trying) - to file \\servername\users$\my username\my documents\donationcoder\screenshotcaptor\screenshotcaptor.ini.new;exception: Cannot create file "\\\\servername\users$\my username\my documents\dona" at which point the tag does not have enough space to capture the entire directory.

I'm not sure why the ini file is being written to this location if i'm running from the portable zip (although i did used to have screenshot captor installed as a full install. I have removed the installed version but still get this message).

Living Room / Re: Best USB/Bootable recovery and "utility" tools
« on: February 15, 2012, 06:39 AM »
The Winternals ERD commander is still alive and well under Microsoft but you need to go through a couple more hoops to get it. It is now part of Microsofts Desktop Optimization Pack and is only available through a few methods. You need to have purchased Software Assurance AND the MDOP licence that gives you several benefits including the new ERD distro. Alternatively if you have technet or a MSDN subscription you can get the software for evaluation purposes too.
Search your Technet/MSDN downloads at technet.microsoft.com for Desktop Optimization Pack and download.

For what it's worth, the tool is very good at recovering data in the case of a missing Boot loader or virus or something else mangling the system.

Another useful tool that you might have seen and that is partly related is the ZALMAN ZM VE200 SATA hard drive caddy. Add your hard drive with all the iso's installed, and then attach the drive to your machine, select the iso you want to boot from with the jog wheel and boot away.  Note that I don't actually have one yet but I have seen it in action.  A good review with some hints and tips for using it is at http://www.rmprepusb.com/tutorials/ve200 ($43 at newegg - http://www.newegg.co...Item=N82E16817379025 ) (Note there is also a USB version at $55 but thats out of stock)

Hope this helps.

Just downloaded dcupdater in an attempt to update screenshotcaptor. On installation and running the program i get the following error message "Error:\\server01\user$\andy helsby\mydocs\donationcoder\dcupdater\dcupdater.ini is not a dcupdater configuration file. Please delete it if this problem persists."
The dcupdater directory does not exist and I suspect this is because most people assume the username is only going to be one word not two so the original directory probably stopped at \\server01\user$\andy
I've seen this before with a couple of other apps (including my own batch scripts!)
Creating the dcupdater directory by hand fixes this particular issue.

However, it's not showing me as having screenshotcaptor installed - it just lists the dcupdater program.
I've "fixed" the issue by downloading the program through dcupdater (I was running 2.88)

Having had to decipher computer accounts for a widow friend of mine and also had an uncle die this month, the thought had crossed my mind. With the urge to have different passwords for different websites, with numbers of passwords increasing on a monthly basis, this would be impossible to keep up to date with an attorney.
I had thought about creating a webservice that would prompt users for specific information to be kept, with a dead mans switch to activate. However you'd probably want the dead mans switch to run after a month (so it wouldn't trigger if you went on holiday for two weeks) but would your spouse be able to wait a month for that information to be released to them in case of your death? Typically some of these things like bank accounts need to be activated NOW. Also I'm not sure that *I* would trust my data to my own web site or another third party....

thankyou - i had done a search but obviously not got the right terms put in.

I've looked all over for a utility that will quickly (and preferably invisibly) enable or disable my second monitor on my laptop (toggling the current setting).  Typically my vga out is used for extra display space or for giving presentations but if I then have to move my laptop to a meeting the windows open on the external display stay there and I can't see them without going into display, settings and unticking the extend display.
Any chance someone could please write a utility to do that (I was thinking of sendkeys and autoit but it takes time for the dialog box to pop up and get displayed, a windows function would be more efficient I would have thought?)
