You could nLite your current XP install CD for an unattended install, including all Microsoft patches/updates/servicepacks.

That alone makes re-installing a system a lot less intrusive to whatever you planned to do in meatspace. However, since you are creating a new install CD...why not make it a new install DVD, including all tools you require/desire in a separate folder structure. That way you can install very quickly.

For the truly lazy, there is software to help with that as well.
CD, DVD, everything is fine. Now reinstalling is a bunch of work, downloading drivers etc... Is that possible to do as well?
What is unattended installation? Without help?

yes Guus had won it when it was still called the European Cup (1988) and later took the Koreans to WC semi-finals and has had a museum-shrine built in his hometown - Guuseum and of course now is the dual coach for Russia and Chelsea.. quite an impressive CV.. :)
Dont you forget he beat us (the Netherlands) with Russia. Total pwnage! Yeah I know what Guus did in 1988, just awesome. I'm up early, have to study for 2 tests tomorrow.

I appreciate the help but I'm just going to use what is already there. I didn't get stuck anywhere I think.....? Set it up just like your walk through, looked the same to me anyway.

it's "C:\gmail.exe" with or without the quotes?
I tried it both ways.

Not a big deal to me, which is maybe why I didn't get it.
I can just keep using the 'mail to' with the gmail notifier.

I guess it works for you, no one else has said yet.

Well Microsofts help page told me how to do this, so I'm pretty sure it's supposed to work. I can only test it via the e-mail button on my keyboard!

Is it difficult to make a windows xp install cd which automatically installs apps like firefox and other stuff?

106
I gave up on it. But still have Gmail in my start menu, that opens the inbox. I suppose I could make a compose icon and put it there.

I use Poppeeper for gmail and yahoo anyway.
Although it doesn't do anything for system default settings.

http://www.poppeeper.com/
Well Maybe someone can develop a batch that does this registry edits? Where are you stuck in the registry editing? Maybe I can help you.

what are club cards, something like season ticket? Ajax-PSV should be a good game, are Ajax still the force they used to be? today's semi-final match is Arsenal vs Chelsea. still 1-1, though and 2nd half has started..
I saw a bit of the FA cup semi-final. 1-2... Did you know that Guus Hiddink was the one of the best trainers PSV ever had (semi final champions league and league champion)? A club card is a season ticket. I did not know the word.

Come on skrommel, a few donation bucks waiting for you here!

multi-nested quotes are making me woozy, btw, aren't you going to a PSV match during the weekends? i'm off to watch the FA Cup. 8)
We only have 2 club cards here, and my brother is a lucky bastard because I picked the ticket (we do a raffle every year to decide who goes to which match (my dad always goes, because he pays them)) for Ajax. So tomorrow, the classic game PSV - Ajax. What match are you watching? The game does not start until 6'es?

Or design your own board game!
Haha I rather learn how to code something. I can design stuff (html/css), but there is nothing to do atm... I really wish I could help someone by doing him a favour...
It says forbidden now.
you can alleviate your boredom by helping me design a website layout for my coding snacks.. :P

I couldn't get the darn ahk thing to work.
Although the .exe loads Gmail, I lost it in the registry.
It looked like what you had there Coeluh.

And thanks for that ahk exe.
It can be pinned to the start menu.

I looked for a good while before for an answer for this.
Looked again for a while today.
Found this, which is in beta, but shows some promise.
I could put Google Mail as the email program in control panel/internet options.

http://www.williamra...mailIconNotifier.htm

It does have it's quirks.
And I had to pin a gmail icon to the start menu.
But if this fella keeps working on it.
I think it would be great.

Found other solutions that required like 4 add ons.

http://labnol.blogsp...th-gmail-as-your.htm

Another is affixa-which used to be gAttach which worked good, but this is very different and replace gAttach forever I guess.

http://seriouslytriv...indows-email-client/

Did you managed to pull it off now?

115
If you are using Firefox, you must still set gmail as the default handler in Applications tab of the options page.
Yeah but this was about pressing the email button key on my keyboard, because only linking it to gmail.com was not enough because the default mail program still will be trigered.

116
I'm sorry, ill share. It is not doable with google talk or notifier. I wanted gmail to act as default e-mail program, so when a program or my keyboard sent the command to open mail, gmail will be opened.

That's specifically what that article I linked talked about doing... I might have to try to see if it acts as advertised; I know yahoo does, because I installed the yahoo version for my wife.
Well notifier wasn't doing what I wanted, because it was only about handling the mailto links... And I already got g-talk running, so 2 tray apps are kinda a waste of memory. My solution is good, isn't it?

Improved BattleShips RTS

Requirements: pen, 2 pins, 2 paper sheets, 2 people (not needed so much but it's less fun)

Rules:

  • each person has an army of 50 stick soldiers, so he/she has to draw them on his paper;
  • each turn one of these people takes foe's sheet and pins it through 10 times (paper should be reversed, there are no radars or fog is too thick);
  • after two turns you take your army and estimate damages; according to rules you can assume that soldier is killed on hit or give a chance to the wicked and agree that with leg thrown away he can still fight :)
  • repeat until victory;

Notes:
  • You should discuss rules before game!
  • You can have red pencil to maximize graphics for bleeding out army.
  • With bigger plates of paper you can even draw big guns and use nails for them.

Following numbers have been estimated: 50, 10.

Well if someone was around here I guess I would not be bored.

I can always recall few self-created games from my childhood if you want it but they might be little disturbing :)

Go on... ;)

I can handle it, I guess, as long as you are not going to rickroll me or something like that

actually a dc member recently wrote a php fun thing, and needs help making a web page for it.. if you are interested, join the chat channel and i'll fill you in.

it'd be nicer if the text that appears had some kind of drop-shadow so that they don't look so thin..
That's what I already pointed out. If you have a white wallpaper, the text is absolutely unreadable, this is because (i guess) the transparency applies to the whole thing, not just the background rounded rectangle (which I really think is great)

122
I'm sorry, ill share. It is not doable with google talk or notifier. I wanted gmail to act as default e-mail program, so when a program or my keyboard sent the command to open mail, gmail will be opened.

1. First I created a single exe, gmail.exe which simply opens gmail in browser (Only attached the .exe for the lazy people, becuase people who use ahk will know how to do it.

optional: 2. You are going to do a registery edit. No harm can be done, although it can be wise to backup it before going on.

3. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail

4. Create a new key called gmail, give it the value GMail (or whatever you want it to appear)

5. Make a new key, inside GMail, and name it shell
6. Make a key inside shell, and name it open
7. And final, make a new key in open command

If you did well, you'll have something like this:

8. Download the attached dot exe or create it yourself. Place it somewhere on your drive (I chose C:\gmail.exe)

9. Now navigate to the command key you just created. Change the default value to: "C:\gmail.exe"

10. Almost done! Now head for Control Panel and open up internet options. You now can select GMail as default e-mail client.

Wow, check out how cool this Hangman program looks:

Sounds great too.  Congratulations to Ruffnekk for completing a full stage of challenges in the Programming School.

It looks like photoshop to me
