Looks like they featured some of your work there too.  I'll have to look around some more.

I think I'd stick to the forum list.  It probably wouldn't be too hard to add an option to the user interface that allows someone to opt-out of mailings if they don't want to receive them.  Just one bool variable and an extra check before adding someone to the list.

I just use the one built into firefox.  There's a plugin that allows you to export all of firefox's bookmarks to IE automagically.  Both are free, of course.

Mega-corporations abusing the little guy?  You've gotta be kidding me.

In other news: the sun is bright, water is wet, and dirt is dirty.

I like this idea.  It kind of ties us all together even though we're still more or less separate.

I don't mind the discussion about the donations at all.  Matter of fact, it's nice to be included.  Makes the place feel even more like home.  That said, I think a poll is a great idea.  Not only could you use the results to determine how to proceed with donations, but you could also use them to determine what you're doing well and what needs improvement.

mouser: The keyfile idea could work, but wouldn't that be a considerable amount of work to implement in all of your software?  If you're not receiving enough donations, you need to make donating more appealing.  Making the reviews viewable by donaters only for a set period of time (say a day or two) might help, but my understanding is that the main draw is your software.  Maybe the keyfile thing is the only way to go.  A single nag screen is no big deal, but I'd be willing to give a few bucks to get rid of a nag screen in process tamer.

dtrud0h: A good idea, but how often can we expect a software maker to donate copies of its product to the site?  I think he needs something stable.  Advertising the available discount(s) on the front page is a good idea.

It would be nice to see some kind of customization in support responses.  There's nothing I hate more than receiving a canned response that doesn't even remotely address my problem from a company whose software I paid for.  It's almost like being on hold for an hour while being constantly reminded that my call is important.

The next time someone asks me how computers store data, I'm going to tell them about a very busy dog and his many, many biscuits.

The problem is, how often are you going to find two programs that are exactly identical, only one is open source and the other isn't?  Personally, I like OpenOffice more than MS Office--but it's almost entirely because OO is free for me to use.  Same goes for Gimp vs. Photoshop, but I'm not exactly a graphic designer, so I use the more basic features.  7-Zip lacks many of the features that WinRAR has, so I use WinRAR.  If they were features I didn't care about, I might use 7-Zip.

So, the main thing is features.  After that is price.  If the features are the same, I'll take whatever costs less.  If they have the same features and both cost the same, my brain will go into an infinite recursion, causing my head to explode in a fine mist of neural tissue and blood with the occasional skull fragment.

Still works fine for me.  The new options panel is great, and I like the dimming and greying options.

There are a few programs that I wouldn't mind terminating in the same way the clip was...

I really doubt that anybody at Microsoft has ever been enthusiastic enough about some piece of their own software to add an exclamation point to the name.  Although, Windows ME might have been a possible candidate.  "Windows <insert expletive here> ME!"

I'll test it as soon as I get home from work.

Edit: It works about 95% of the time now.  About the only time it screws up is when I exit and then quickly run it again.  If I give it a couple seconds, it consistently works fine.

My university had Pine installed for people that telnetted to their Unix server.  For a command line program, it wasn't bad at all.  But still... it's a command line program.  Unless there are other, newer versions out there, that is.

Now it works sometimes and sometimes it doesn't... I wonder if this is just a problem on my end.  It seems like it's more likely to work properly after killing the process with taskmgr than if I exit it from the program.

That XP bit is annoying.  Most of you should recall that they did the same when windows 95, 98 and 2000 were released.  GenericApp! 2000.  .NET is a whole other beast.  *grumbles*

I think extending the time is a great idea.  In cases like FTP servers and email clients, there are a lot of options, so the more time to experiment the better.  You could also interject a coding snacks weekend to give yourself some more time.

I've been able to reproduce the error without changing any settings.  There seems to be a difference between exiting with the system tray and exiting with File->Exit.  Still, it almost seems random.  Sometimes it will work and sometimes it won't--I haven't been able to distinguish a pattern  As for it getting confused about the directories, I haven't the slightest clue.  I don't install 3rd party programs onto my system drive and my screenshots aren't on the 3rd party or the system drive.  I doubt that is what's causing it though.  They're all NTFS, if that makes any difference.

Now that you mention it, it may not just be this version.  I think I remember having to delete the .ini file while installing a new version a time or two.  At the time, I assumed it was the new version not reading the old .ini file properly--I don't think I ever actually closed and re-ran the program without installing a new version until now.

I went through all the preference changes I made one by one to see which one broke it, and after doing so, it's still running.  I wonder if it's the combination of changes I was making all at once.  Sorry I can't be more helpful, but if you have any other ideas, I'll be happy to test them.  I've taken a few screenshots, and I've noticed that for some reason, it started placing them in the folder above the one I specified, and after that, it broke down and stopped running.  Removing the entry you mentioned did not help at this point.

It's not just a slow startup... I just gave it a couple minutes to run.  No luck.

I'm not getting any error messages, but it would appear that it's having trouble reading the .ini file on my machine.  When I run it while the .ini file is present, it hangs and the tray icon never appears.  However, when I delete the .ini file and run it, it works fine.  This is 1.00.19, by the way.
