So, I am gonna pop in a make a small necro.

I recently tried actually programming some bezier curves, and to me that gave me a quite a bit better understanding of it. Not much on a mathematical level, or super intuitive level. But it really helped me actually understand what a bezier curve is (A series of control points to use in a parametric function). Even if it is pretty obvious from the various "pen" tools. The difference between bezier paths and higher order bezier curves was pretty cool to learn about. As I said, I recently programmed a bezier curve thing in Löve2d. Using this (really helpful) blog post to work off. And it was pretty fun and if you haven't done anything similar I highly recommend trying it out.

The moving ball represents t going from 0 to 1 in the formulas for bezier curves.

Living Room / Re: Scratch - A Game Programming Language For Children
« on: October 05, 2014, 03:17 AM »
Oh man, scratch! I remember using that in high school for a multimedia class thing. It's actually a lot more powerful (albeit pretty slow) than you'd think at first.

We made this sort of hybrid puzzle/adventure/platform game:

Some of it works really badly (Of course not the parts I was responsible for!), but overall I think it's pretty interesting how much we got out of it considering only one of us had any kind of coding experiences

Small platformer:

I put this together using the experiences I got from the first thing in about 30-40 minutes. So you can also have decently fast paced games.

Sweet! Feels good to help out. Even if money is a bit tight at the moment, I would probably have just spent it on beer anyhow. So at least it's going to something a bit more productive than my inebriation!

Did you get enough to move on out and go to the funeral? I hope my small contribution at least did a bit!

Yep, that's the exact oscilloscope I am using. It's working out well so far. The controlling software is a bit slow, but once you set everything up it works flawlessly.

I am personally using Digilents Analog Discovery, it's a USB oscilloscope, arbitrary waveform generator and 5v power supply. It also has like 12 16 I/O ports. It's a bit expensive though, but thinking about how expensive most normal oscilloscopes are, it's pretty affordable.

So, I recently started Uni and have been doing a bit of this and that with my Atmel prototyping board using a AtMega32 µC. One of things I made with some of the assignments we've gotten so far is a small simple square wave synthesizer like thing. Has anyone else done similar small electronics projects? I am correctly dabbling in buying 6 5X8 LED dot matrixes to redo the charlieplexing display I made in high school. So yeah, any of you guys done similar things?

The small synthesizer like thing I made using the Uni-required STK500 prototyping board (An exercise in assembly):

Dropped a bit your way. Good luck Stephen!

It's the African and Russian unit pack.

Oh jesus, Cthorpe. That joke was cringe worthy. So, what do you want? All of them or anything specific?

Thanks for some extra chuckles Deo. Always appreciated

I recently got some bundle overlap and I am giving away the games. To spice things up, the games goes to whoever can tell me the worst/best joke, rather than first come first serve.

DC Gamer Club / Re: Risk of Rain 4-pack
« on: June 21, 2014, 02:06 AM »
Risk of Rain is really great, you really should play it with friends though. While it is pretty good by itself, it is only REALLY REALLY good if played with friends. It's also a goddamn chaotic mess when played with four players (in the good way). The soundtrack is also really good. Also I just wrote a bunch of small statements that all basically said the same, but yeah. For 2 dollars you can't go wrong.

I don't think console commands are a "real" part of the game. TES:Morrowinds alchemy and enchantment mechanics where really poorly thought out though, alchemy especially. Because it allowed you to temporarily increase your alchemy skill by using it. Allowing a positive feedback loop that could "temporarily" increase your other stats for so long that it was practically permanent.

Decided to spend the time between christmas and new years with my girlfriend instead of finishing my NANY. For the people that want to check out what I made you can download the current version here

Controls are WASD for movement, H for jumping, J for useless batting action. O for showing collision detection debug boxes and escape for quitting to the menu.

Was fun, slightly burned out halfway through. But that's alright, still learned a lot and I'll be back next year!

4. Learn to cook, it's goddamn invaluable being able to create delicious food from very few ingredients and a few spices. Also experiment and find out what works for you after you achieved basic proficiency.

Started building a level, not using the platforms I created in the previous video, although something like that will definitely be used for more generic platforms later. Right now I am just working on creating an intro level.

Added level functionality, now to figure out a way to build levels effectively. This is made by manually plotting different platforms into a grid and then adding that to the gamestate.

Ah, sorry. I frequently post on another forum where bumping your own threads with double posts is looked down on.

edit:

Added sounds, with them being handled by the TEsound library to make it easier to keep track of large amounts of sounds. Also changed a few things and added a jump animation (or static image or whatever)

Kind of hit a bit of a hitch where I can't quite decide what to do next. I think I'll set up sound though.
