Ok - looks like this thread is a bit derailed... so...

It's a serious problem. You're calmly having a few too many, hit a thread that fires you up, and all of a sudden you're posting ludicrous non-sense, but with the aid of careful typing, staring at the screen a bit too long, and a spell checker built into the forum, you've got a coherent mess of insanity that just makes you look like a complete jackass!

I wonder if you could make any money attaching those breathalyzer machines that they use on cars to your computer to stop you from becoming a complete idiot in front of the entire world...

That is exactly what I was looking for.  I did not want to be specific, because I was attempting to start a generalized talk on software that assists people in licensing software.  I also stated this, even though you asked again "depends on what you want to do."  I wanted to know about licensing software others knew of.

Granted, this probably could have been put in the developer forum.  Again though, I was not being specific on purpose, therefore I thought it qualified as "general."

And I was not being nasty, I thought Ehtyar was the one being snippy so I replied thusly.

Maybe I overreacted.  Some serious family issues have arisen and it has been difficult for all of us to deal with them calmly.  *If* I overreacted, my apologies.

Also, I am specifically looking for one I saw "back in the day."  It was called "Bit" something I am almost positive.  I cannot for the life of me find it though.

I truly don't understand  the difference between Javascript and CSS. Flanagan's book came.. I'm beginnig to think he might as well have written it in Greek.  But since I am retired now I have plenty of time to see what I can learn.

OK, but seriously, do yourself a favor and learn at least the *difference* between HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.  I will give you a *quick* rundown.

HTML - A markup language used to actually comprise the content and structure of a Web page.

CSS - Another language similar to a markup language that defines the style of your Web page or how the elements in your HTML Web page will look.

JavaScript - An interpreted scripting language that allows you to add behaviors to your HTML Web page that may or may not be styled with CSS.

The Holy Trinity - Content, Style, and Behavior.

I tried to use a  GIF file that is on my HD instead of the URL. I changed URL(" xx")  to
   file("c:\map.gif");    as in # 3 above . It did not work. Is the syntax for files different than URL's ?

OK, a couple things.

1.  Using a GIF is just fine.  No biggie.

2.  Do not just guess.  Programming or coding if you will is not an area where you just want to pull guesswork.  You say you are retired so you should have plenty of time to study this.

3.  Whether files, or HTTP address, or FTP address, *all* are considered valid URLs.  And anyway, it does not change, it is still:

url("whatever");

So in your example it would be:

Code: CSS [Select]

1. background-image: url("file:///C:/map.gif");

Remember, URLs utilize forward slashes "/" whereas as directory structures use "\" in Windows.

Oh!  By "code block" I meant when you put source code here.  Instead of just using:

[ code ][ /code ]

...you can use:

[ code=fbsl ]...[ /code ]

Minus all the spaces of course!

The only things I know of offhand are these (in no particular order):

1.  Use SAPI 5.1, or 5.3 instead of 4.0.  [1, 2, 3]

2.  AT&T Natural Voices

3.  A bunch of other voice libraries.

Exactly what I originally thought.  Your problem was not JavaScript at all.  It was a CSS issue.  Well, technically a CSS issue.

The source that SeqDownload creates for you starts out something like this:

2. body, input {
3.         font-weight: normal;
4.         font-size: 12px;
5.         font-family:  Verdana, Arial, Helvetica;
6.          }
7. </style>

All you have to do is add this, *directly* after that.

I'll leave it up to you to get that image.  Hint.

Following Cpilot's lead, the *dreaded* Microsoft Agent, Merlin.

I mixed it up a bit with the Sleep()'s so it didn't appear as if he paused too long.  And for the record... I believe I could have done this with events, but honestly, I was too lazy to read any more of the Agent SDK.  So it could definitely be done better.

You know, as a stipulation of winning.  Kind of like having to put $5 in a pot to win a $1,000 or other nonsensical analogy.  I am *no* good at analogies, forgive me.

Am I correct in that the user "Smirf" stuck around long enough to win Borland Studio and then removed all traces of his chess program?

*If* that is the case, that is one of the primary reasons why I wouldn't allow someone to compete without archiving *all* of their software and making it available.  That seems like a fair stipulation.

So, I haven't missed it anywhere have I?

Ever since reviewing ronriel's nifty little r4r media player, I have found a renewed love for AutoIt.

Here is that application in only 5 lines of AutoIt.

Alright.  I *am* going to get you sorted.  Please paste for me a screenshot of SeqDownloader's "Download Properties" dialog.  The one where you insert a new item.

I want to see your *exact* settings, and the *exact* URL you download from.  I used the revised URL you provided in your last post and was getting PHP files.

So, help me help you... once I figure out this downloading of images part, the rest is easy!

There are far too many things wrong with the markup and code you provided.  Is it at all possible for you to upload this example somewhere?

A few notes:

1.  That link you gave for the images, leads to only 1 image.  And it didn't appear to update...

2.  Setting one image as your background does not seem to be the primary way SeqDownload animates images.  Although it can be done.

3.  The "language" attribute is deprecated in favor of using:

type="text/javascript"

Although some would argue that it too is deprecated.

4.  The things you've tried (directly above this post) are all methods of styling the document via HTML attributes.  This should arguably be done via CSS.

However, I do not think it is the source of your problems.

Anything further, I'd really need to see an example page, complete with images and code.

Let me guess. You are using the "classic theme" on your windows. Well, that is obvious.
But i think it is the reason why the buttons are 'blank'.
Truth is, I haven't noticed that until i have finished coding. I designed my GUI while using the windows XP default 'Luna Theme'. But that will also be fixed.

That's odd indeed.  I would think that it wouldn't affect anything especially since your application uses images for its "skin."

I've never actually ran across this problem when using AutoIt.  Then again I've only just started tinkering with it.

Make sure to let us know what the problem is when you find it.  That'll help future AutoIt-ites, I'm sure.

The program ( NirSoft > SeqDownload ) downloads the radar sweeps from NOAA to my HD.  At some point I run the  animation  program ( part of SeqDownload)  It  " animates" the radar sweeps one at a time every X milliseconds.
You are correct in that is does open up my browser  ( Firefox )to show the animation and the background file that I  have added.  I have the file but for some reason it splits ( see my earlier post  blue line )  and so the radar scan is not accurately placed.    I ordered Flanagan's Book from Amazon. Should arrive any day.

Whilst SeqDownload does provide the option for "JavaScript animation" it may not be the problem.  Or rather, JavaScript may not be the problem.

I don't suppose it is possible for you to post an example of this anomaly online is there?

Or perhaps give me the link to whatever scans you are retrieving, I'll download SeqDownload and try it myself to see if I can reproduce your problem.

You can use JS to code for WSH (Windows Scripting Host).
You can use it directly to do smtg with your files on disk
or use it e.g. in an text editor like PSPad to extend the editor functionality-

I know nothing.  I want to learn.  I am trying to use an image as a background in a program that is on my HD
( Not a web page )  I get the image OK but it appears  split.  The  left portion of the image and then  the image again.   See screenshot.  Note the BLUE line and the repeat of the image .

I been trying to solve this for a week.  I figured a good SIMPLE book would do the trick.  Between all this info I should be able to work this out.

EDIT:  I didn't mean that to sound as if there are no other possible means to run JavaScript except for in a browser.  I just meant what are you using to run your JavaScript then?
