Coding Snacks / Re: [request] Hide Show desktop icons
« on: November 08, 2007, 04:56 AM »
OK, mayb i failed to mention the fact that i have tried this and various other similar apps. After all, reviewing Freeware is what i do!
I found that the one you suggested, actually hid my desktop widgets along with the desktop icons. This is obviously not the effect i was going for. I contacted the author on this issue, but have not heard a reply.
I tried using the icon hide show app on here, and it worked, but just not when and where i wanted it to.
Maybe I should just take a few hours out to look and extract and edit the code to do what i want.

Coding Snacks / [request] Hide Show desktop icons
« on: November 06, 2007, 02:22 PM »
I know you already have an app that kind of does this, but I want one that hides/shows on mouse over a little box on the desktop, not when my mouse is not on the desktop, like your current app.

Truth be told, I would love to take some time out and write it myself, but i have so little time coz of all my college coursework and my blog, plus im a tad lazy when it comes to learning new prog langs.

Are you still developing?
If not I may beat you to creating it. You never know

Anyone else like this idea?

Skrommel's Software / Re: HideDesk requests ..
« on: October 23, 2007, 05:35 AM »
I think there is need for another feature or two. I won't call it a bug because its not really, but kind of is.
Firstly, it hides all my yahoo widgets along with the icons. I know its "hide desktop" so I'm guessing either upgrade it or create a new app called "hide icons".
Finally, it seems unable to run with madotate (3d visualisation software for windows) and produces some rather weird effects, as in basically disabling all input to any window. You have to close hide desktop to work in any window again.

Any chance you can update this?
I would offer to donate but I also have no money as I'm a student. I may actually join donation coder when I'm good enough! =D

With such a vast array of small apps like this, would it not be worth creating a "daddy" app to control them all? like the DC updater mouser has recently released, except especially for skrommel's apps. This would create a huge pull for ALL of the apps. How about making them all portable (if they are not already that is)?

Any thoughts on this anyone?

yeh i agree.
most decent apps that allow for their own skin also allow for the system default one to work too. for example media monkey. but i still use its own skin. makes it look just that bit more "different"

teracopy is mazin! love it!

83
oh yeh that's very true!
I'm looking to really raise my profile over the next 2-3 months.
No worries

Cheers

that very close, but i want that + the ability to hide and show sections with customizable sections.

85
i was at Reading uni open day a week ago (in in the UK) and noticed that a desktop on display had the icons split up into sections, with the footer giving the description of the icons above in the clearly defined section. it also had an up arrow, so assumed it was some kind of desktop app. sadly it was not.

I dont want to use virtual desktops. i cant get on with them. I want an app that hides and shows GROUPS or sets of icons on the desktop.

Surly this must be possible/ already done?
anyone know of one? im sure i cant be the only person in the world that wants it

could i be considered from site of the month sometime?
not right now, but in about 3 or 4 months time when ive moved off wordpress.com and onto a privately hosted site. Then i can really start to work hard on the blog, where as now i dont have a lot of time due to college and work!

as i said in my first post, win XP sp2 =P lol
yeh, that would be a really good idea. it shouldnt be too difficult i should think. I mean i only know VB well and don't know what process tamer is written in.

also as i said before, i love it. so much so, that i will be writing a review for it shortly on my blog, and will then add it to the list in this forum =D

EDIT:
surly you could make it so that the menu just stays up until you select an option, like process lasso does (used to be called process supervisor. its by bitsum tech)

i see the check box. being a software reviewer, that was naturally the first thing i tried. sadly this makes no difference at all. the ist still refreshes every second, and the drop down still vanishes.

« on: September 14, 2007, 12:09 PM »
dont get me wrong, i love process time. its way better than the other process taming apps out there.
i seem to have a problem with it.
i cant remember if it was there all along, but it is now, and i re installed the other day and its the same.

so what happens is when i go to set an explicit rule for a process, i click the drop down box, but less than a second after it vanishes as the list refreshes.

does this happen with anyone else?

ive been getting round it by just selecting any rule as fast as i can and then changing it on the config menu.

any help?

can provide any more info needed. running xp sp2
