hey everyone.
My current security set up is AVG free, spyware terminator and comodo. Good set up you will all agree. All freeware.

Thing is, I have the chance to get ZA full IS suite. It used to be a resource hog, but i understand it isnt anymore.
One thing really tempting me is the fact that it has the kaspersky AV engine, which is better than AVG. I know the firewall is good, but I've heard Comodo is better. As for the anti spyware, I have no idea which is better.

Resources are not really a problem since I got my new computer, so what should I do?

thanks everyone. found exactly what i was looking for

Just got a 2nd screen!
what freeware should i be getting for it?
i have no idea, plus im rather tired atm and cant think.
will check back here 2moz

THANKS! :D

I used to use Bloglines but have seen the light and moved to Google Reader

I have one niggle though, which is important to me
i used to use http://widgets.yahoo...om/widgets/bloglines , which showed me the number of unread items for each folder and feed. I know there is a Google Reader widget that can show you the total number of unread feeds, but I want to see the number for each folder and feed.

Any suggestions?
Please!

If you have the ability, maybe you could create a clone of the yahoo widget for Google Reader?

thank you

Thanks for the compliments Nosh! I wish I could post here more often, but we are definitely pretty strapped for time. We've never really posted what our schedules are like for working on the site, but here's a quick run down:

Note: All times mentioned are in central time

  • Ashley and I are both working by 7AM each weekday, and are done around 7PM
  • The first two hours of our day is typically spend finding what we consider to be the best news, and for that we go through close to 500 different feeds. In a days time we normally look through 10,000 to 20,000 feed items. It's really disappointing when we go through all of the feed items and don't find a single thing that interests us, which happens more than you would believe. :(
  • We normally keep up on the news feeds throughout the day checking them periodically. In all we probably spend about 3 to 4 hours everday just going through feed items.
  • We are normally done writing articles for the site by 3PM, and then...
     - on Mondays we do some general maintenance to the site that typically takes a few hours.
     - on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays we knock out the CyberNotes articles for the next week. Yep, these are all written at least one week in advance.
     - on Friday we write extra articles that are posted on the weekends. We try not to write on the weekends so that we are able to get a break from the site.
  • Our day kind of ends around 7PM, and that's when we normally eat dinner, watch a little TV, and such. Around 9PM or 10PM we will go around replying to the people who have left comments on our site and our forum, and that's normally when we stop at other sites as well. About an hour is spent doing this.

So we are definitely busy, but we're having a good time trying to build up the site. Hope I didn't bore anyone with this post, but I thought some of you might find it interesting as to what actually goes on in a day's time for a fulltime blogger. It's not quite the cakewalk that some people make it out to be. ;)

WOW!

sure sounds like what id love to do if i had the time n wasnt already planning to go to uni!

but seriously, i do like my truecrypt!

No, I wasn't trying to belittle or anything like that at all.
I was thinking maybe a theme program could have changed things.
Never used one myself, so I don't know.

No worries, im easy going. found it quite funny.
mayb styleXP has changed it, i shall have 2 investigate 2moz.
I just had a complete mega problemo with WLW posting to my blog. Sorted it at long last though.
now i must sleeeep
gd nite ppl

donation coder forum... the place to be

If the window is maximized you can't change it sometimes.
On certain windows...can't remember which ones-Firefox for one.
Just tried it.

But if you click the middle button that will give you back your resizing arrows on all sides. That's been my experience....as I recall....
Do you still have 3 buttons up there in the right corner?

lol thanks for the help, but i am a software reviewer. I know a little bit about computers and stuff. =P

59
;D *how ironic. on the link you gave me, it states "so you don't have to pay for styleXP"
All my readers can get a legal free key!
Well.. It's still one less process running ;)

Very good point. You win this round! :P
Although, 1meg, im not fussed

Sorry, that was a semi plug, but no link.

On the subject... it may be something to do with styleXP i guess, although im sooo resistant to even testing by changing my theme. (yes i am very odd)

*respect*
This is your creation on LH. Mine was just a linked review. *needs to learn to code*

hum, come to think of it, *wounders* may have something to do with my skinned OS?
Ill reset the theme and try again

*cringe* i HATE changing my theme!

*more respect*

Including the top edge and the top corners?
----
I thought that was what i understood from your first post. The reason why i asked is because i can resize any window from any corner or edge... Strange.

[shameless plug]
If you're interested in stuff that helps you to quickly resize windows, you most probably will be interested in my own GridMove.
[/shameless plug]
I have indeed seen this before, and i would probably use it, if i wasn't already using miniMIZE

[shameless plug]
Read my review of it here http://appaholic.co....ows-to-your-desktop/
It even got featured on LifeHacker! =D

Ding Ding Ding.
We have a winner (I think, got to download and try)

I'll explain what i was after. I found, when on ubuntu, you could resize the window by dragging from any side, while on windows, you can only resize by dragging from the bottom, right or left.

Being a Multi Task freak, i often find i have windows of the bottom of the screen that i wish i didnt have to move to then resize the hight.

Well done PhilB66

64
I used Linux only for a few hours about 6 months ago, and now i have a thought.
I searched google for an app that enabled you to resize WINDOWS windows from the top of the window, like on Ubuntu.
Has anyone already made this app? or know where i can find one that does this? Im on Win XP

I would be happy to write a review for it on my review website.

Thanks

I know, it needs the content. Ive been laps recently because of a stack of coursework and revision. Any time i did have, i sent dealing with the move over from wordpress.com. It will be picking up to its usual post rate again very soon.

66
I do listen to my readers opinion.
True, i recently added that tag asking users to click on the adds. This is really only to pay for the hosting which was needed to host my own wordpress installation so i could customize it further. it wasn't really my primary aim to get loads of users. Im surprised at how its taken off already!
I will keep this in mind though.

As for you second comment, you may have hit the nail on the head. My blog has a narrow target audience. This is good! Its for the experienced user. After all, non experienced users are not AppAholics. Thats who the website is really for, who i write for, the AppAholic!

I think adding the personality to the sites style makes it a bit more original and unique.

Thanks though.

67
thank u Tinjaw  ;D

I worked long and hard on editing my theme to be exactly the way i want it. Even if I had 0 visits a day because of it, I would not change it. Ok maybe that's a little extreme, but basically its not about to change! =D

Thanks, one person likes it, thats enough for me.
Yeh, I agree, which is why I chose it. So many freeware  blog sites have plain pastel colours. AppAholic is different.

69
Thanks for the comment on the colour.
Its more of a hobby for myself, and if others like it, thats grate for me. If some dont, oh well.
I spent forever editing that theme and my friend spent an age on the logo. I like the black and white, so its here to stay.

Even if i did want to change it, i have next to no time to actually get a new theme laid out. May I could work on a solution that would enable users to switch somehow. Seen it on websites before. Im thinking of www.imilly.com in the top right hand corner. I dont have the time right now to work it out anyway.

Thanks though, ill keep it in mind

The skydrive one downloaded fine! brilliant! love it. dose exactly what i want it 2, and wayyyyy faster than all the other apps of a similar nature.
May I have permission to distribute this on my freeware blog?
would like to talk further in private about this issue...

I use yahoo widgets.
How bizzar. maybe its because i set the widgets to "pin to desktop" but even so, I don't see why it does that.
If i right click on my desktop and then select hide icons, it works fine. I really just want a mouse over tray icon that does that.

Edit : oh, well that's disappointing. It Dies when you try to right click its taskbar icon. =(
Anyone else have a suggestion?
