Moderation in all things, lad.  Sorta like hollering Fire in a crowded theater?  An occasional titter, so to speak :-[, is good for the morale.

It was indeed calm.  So much so that I join Renagade's drop it.

Manning's 'torture' sounds like a watered down version of Marine Corp training at Camp Pendleton in the day when volunteers had enough pride and self-discipline to want to tough it out instead of drowning in self-pity.  The quoted sources are obviously biased.

They took away his glasses?  Maybe because they can be used to commit suicide?  The media would really revel in that.

Is Solitary Confinement torture?  It also keeps other prisoners from getting to Manning.  Might have helped him when you consider his waffling on what gender he is.

Hi, Renegade

I wasn't aware Manning had been tortured.  Can you point me to the details?  BTW, "some of my best friends are Australians", from the years 'Razorback Railway', a great rail sim was programmed by Larry Lewis until it just got too frustrating and costly trying to work with 'Steam' et al  : :-\

Living Room / Re: Amazon.com == AMAZING!

I am also a long time and big fan of amazon.com; wherever possible i order from them.

Their shipping (especially prime) is extremely fast, and their return policy is excellent.

I do think josh is going too far in talking about the savings of free shipping when ordering heavy items; when you order something from an online-only store, and they are willing to give you free shipping on a very heavy item, you can bet that heavy items are already priced to include most of the shipping costs.  The only sensible way to compare the savings when using amazon prime (which is like $79 a year) is to look at how much you would pay if you ordered through amazon, but without Prime.

Amazon Prime is, however, great for impatient people since you do get free upgrades to 2 day delivery and cheaper overnight delivery].
FWIW, I ordered from ROADRUNNERsports via Amazon, the item price was less than other googled sources, it weighed 32 oz., and shipping to Hawaii was via Priority Mail and free.  I think all items from them ship free.  Perhaps this instance will help other sports fans.  I have no ties to Amazon or ROADRUNNERsports.

General Review Discussion / Re: Best spreadsheet

I used Lotus 1-2-3 for years, then Vista wouldn't run it.  Free Open Office has been meeting my needs for about 3 months now.  It is similar to old Lotus suite, so not a big learning curve.

All I am saying is, that if he is using Vista there is no use for any third party program. Yes, there are PLENTY of faster and more advanced applications, but he only asked for this one option, date of installation, and nothing more!
 (see attachment in previous post)

Is Vista the key word here?

Yes, I use my printer every day and still print as much as I did in years past.  I usually prefer being able to read instructions, user manuals, etc. in print while I'm trying to deal with what it's telling me to do on the computer.  I also like being able to take the printout and read it anywhere--it's a lot easier to carry a few sheets of paper than to lug a laptop (and most of the time I'm using my desktop, which I can't lug at all).
Me too.  I have been through so many system/hardware/backup failures over the past that I keep more paper.  We are in an area of high humidity (92% now), bad electrics and lotsa bugs that love to live in the case.

You have to experience the flash/bang of a centipede shorting a 450 W power supply whilst strolling over the white and black 120 VAC input terminals @ 3 am.

Mavis Beacon changed my life back in 1987. :)

She tried with the original and newest releases to teach me.  I keep getting bored.

My 12 and 13 year grandchildren amaze me with their computer and typing skills.  But then I'm amazed that milk is no longer delivered in glass bottles with a cardboard cap in a horse-drawn wagon with the steel-rimmed wheels muffled to not wake me at 5 am.

I get by.

Thank you.  I'm still a newbie and poking about.  I trust the candy in each issue is non-fattening, or I'm in trouble.

Aloha,
Herb
