Living Room / Intelligence in Sandbox
« on: February 13, 2008, 05:08 AM »
I came across mintpages forum site so many times.I've not signed up for the service as it takes only design professionals in it.(Maybe they are picky about the user on the site) I was confused about this buisness
strategy or the very purpose of it.

So I've done some research on this topic. This post is all about discussion on exploring the intelligence & preserving it.Here i'm using term sandbox so that it refers to place which is restricted to like-minded or talented people in some niche area or simmilar. If you don't
understand or comprehand anything please let me know.Just make sure instead of questioning the thoughts you can place your own questions or perspective about this topic. Please forgive the typography,i've written this in bit hurry & late at night.

Opening sandbox style forum without General public could have few advantages like :

1. Leech attacks - Newbies & Purpose suckers, any community or intelligent person degrades becasue of such leeches on the web or in the society. Most of the time leecher approaches the intelligent being for sake of it's own work otherwise they don't even care for intelligent person.Purpose suckers are type of entities as they carry some knowledge about the things & they're with intelligent being till they get their outcome.

2. Less knowledgeble user could steer the discussion in another direction (Even It may or may not benefit the discussion depends on situation)

3. Criticism (It kills creativity & hurts programmers & esigners, scientists) Most of the social crowd (Make it 80%) in society never give any credentials, respect to those who spend most of the time on research or creative acts. They value film celebs & sport player than any
engineer,researcher.

4.SPAM -It is not under the categary of leech cause these guys wants to get rich quick,on any forum you go u'll see them. They'll hunt for blogs, websites, email address or anything that is valuable to them.

There are maybe more advantages on not opening to general public but i've managed to gather the list of these only.

Restricting forum to particular users have Advantages (in my opinion)
1. Most of the intelligent crowd on the internet is protected from Average society which forces them to reinvent some things, which is painfull for designers, programmers or scientist.

2. Most productive discussions can be generated by tossing idea into like minded peoples.

3. Sometime it is good to keep the general public away from innovation or such acts as it may affect the very cause of it.( Area51,SETI is example of this) Media, press or whatever social medium can cause the problem as well (You don't want to have story of your personal
pictures on Digg)

4. It gives Intelligent users Freedom - to experiment, talk, share views with like minded people oer even fail while experimenting.

Intelligent community in the society should be carefully reserved. They're contributing to the world by sacrificing their time, familly, emotions & much more.Such sandbox can play good role of tieing various talent pool for some good cause,or creative act.

Intelligent people can't be categarised by the profession or the domain they can be doctors, engineers, artists, writers, designers, hobbyists, or those who are doing tech things as freelance or even part time.By saying intelligent i didn't mean it for any perticular domain, every domain has its importance & can't be underrated.I mean things get mixed up when one domain connects to another,Like on the internet there are plenty of user who are using computing as medium than as dedicated domain so their views on the subject or domain can mix things up positively or negatively.Sometimes lot of serious discussion can be easily

mouldable if less knowledgable person tosses an idea,so our ears supposes to be open for new ideas.

Sanbox like mintpages can be useful in such case which helps intelligent people gather at place to share thoughts and ideas. This'll even help
such peroples psychologically as most of such people are tied by society, and not alllowed to experiment as everyone is behind money. Most of the things on the planet gets saturated if money plays more role than satisfaction in it.Such sandbox can be used rationaly if the most of knowldge inside such disussions can be taken outside in form of articles, pdf or technical papaers so that newuser who wish to seek the same or those who need can use it.

My questions to you are :
What makes these sandboxes think that perticular person is ready for getting in it.? (By person's achievements or knowledge)

What a newuser should do then,as knowledge will be trapped inside such sandbox how new generation should step up?

P.S.I've posted this on 9rules as well but afraid i won't got any reply.

Living Room / Microsoft Acquisition of Yahoo!
« on: February 04, 2008, 07:23 AM »
I read this line over my friends paul's blog.I was surprised by Yahoo!'s decision for offer of MS.I know many of the yahoo products are cool to be integrated into MS.But it doesn't make any sense.

MS got bad hit from Linux, but they are really getting their grooves with web services and technologies.ASP.net is most used technology on the internet. But acquiring Yahoo! will definitely make them to conquer more internet as yahoo's BSD servers will be replaced by MS servers.Simplenet & Flickr will also get integrated with MS technology,no More PHP & MYSQL on Yahoo! office.

Again Yahoo was not taking most data from user for their purpose (some exceptions) but like Google, MS (as usual)will start taking personal data from user. And security breaks down..... and down...

Take a look at this article http://paulstamatiou...46-billion-for-yahoo

& search on Micrsoft.com/acquisitions for more detalis.

Drop me some of your thoughts.

Developer's Corner / Re: Bow to the browser
« on: January 14, 2008, 03:05 AM »
Opera is secure.
Try to install it in internet cafe and watch how one user logs in with his username and password and gets log onto diffrent account. This problem never occured with Firefox & safari.Opera crashes so many times in comparison with any of the browser (it depends on your CPU memory also).Opera is not good choice if you save webpages for your study or anything. There is lot of problem properly saving and retriving the pages.Internet explorer is quite good at saving webpages, they have file format *.mht that saves image and html files together in file.that is cool.

Firefox is most secure
I don't care what secunia says. These secunia is b*#h of commercial software companies, they only tell the commercial truth. So i dont count their opinion.I don't care if firefox is secure or opera,i want the browser that is not crashing & is secure in internet cafes. As i spend most of my time on the internet cafes.

Safari is joke for browser definition
I don't think so,ask this to any apple user. They'll turn this thread into flame war. What mistake apple did is made safari available to Windows platform.Mistake is :

  • Windows is highly saturated platform of developers.
  • There is no appreciation for innation or portablity or any reason.
  • Lot of criticism can be achieved for designing app for windows platform.
  • Almost 6 user out 10 don't want to pay for software.
  • They don't care if their information is accesible by Microsoft & google.,they want free thing.

Developer's Corner / Bow to the browser
« on: January 13, 2008, 04:51 AM »
Firefox continues to supress other browsers with it's power.Recently netscape announced that they are no longer going to develop future versions of netscape. They will continue to provide support for their current version 9.But they are encouraging the use of mozzila browser to their users and visitors. This ultimately fails other browser which are using netscape engine.Like Neoplanet and many others.Netscape is out of browser race now and they may not able to put their web standard from now on.This clearly makes firefox on the top of others.

The future holds only to 3-top browsers.

Safari: It will remain alive as long as apple thinks. It will do exist on apple OS,so that apple can implement their operating specific settings and features.

Internet Explorer
No chance that firefox is going to repalce it officially on windows.Microsoft is bending to

open source technologies unofficially (.Net Mono Devlopement)  but they are not going to implement any open source framework on windows other than java.Lauch of Blend proved that AJAX,Ruby and Python will be incorporated in Blend but again MS is not making any claims officially about it.

Firefox
It will continue to rise.It is currently the only secure cross paltform browser.Other brosers which are based on gecko engine like flock(Same as mozzila) will continue to have little market share.I'm not sure about opera cause i've personnaly done survey for this browser in many internet cafes.and the users are complaining about its stability and security. It's just my observation.Your experience may vary.

So what is your opinion?

1333
Good work to all the guys who posted free stuff.Wish them happy new year nad luck. All the best.

"Python is Old programming language and is outdated"This is the quote or words i heard from some of the recruiters/Employers of top IT companies in india's second biggest IT city Pune.

This is something i've heard that there is no tool for visual java programming  like VB have .This is another myth cause java is having Visual J++ and Netbeans and some other commercial IDE that do thejob for it.

Living Room / Wiki Spam
« on: December 06, 2007, 06:22 AM »
There are many wiki pages are constantly being spamed. Some of the examples are of ultimate++ IDE's wiki pae Here in the image. There link for tutorial is spammed or is used for advertisement. As google ads are already appeared on their official page, the ads on the tutorial pages are supposed to be spam.

http://img135.imageshack.us/img135/8852/uppwn3.jpg

There are many "Get rich quick scam sites"/"Porn Sites"/"Get paid"/"Pharamacutical Ads" are displayed on most of the forums thread and on wiki pages. Many users with blogspot blogs are putting false content on the blogs for their adsense code.If you care for the such communities or good resources/forums/wikis then please notify these issues to respective community leads.

Living Room / Re: How Google earns money?
« on: October 27, 2007, 04:39 AM »
Youtube is aquired by google. And since then it is ruined. The viedos are now remixed by some people and you can't get original stuff there now.Your favourite cartoon show like transformers or TV show galactica is mixed with linkin park music or even beatles sometimes.Because of this many people moved to joost. So Google is on its way out with youtube.

Next they are almost aquiring famous desktop products to keep eye on users need. They aquired sanbox surfing program, registry cleaner program, ubuntu source code, firefox toolbar integration etc.

Also one bad thing i've noticed is when you log in to gmail and open another window with google then it will display your login at that page.So theya re monitoring your seach keywords. So if you mistype with any illegal keyword :-[ (Hope u get me)
then they might even sue you thru FBI or even pass your detailed surfing keyword results to ISP. ;D

Who knows what theya re capable of?
Anyway, all i can say is google earns money in terms of advertisement or giving customers what they want. Its like e-retail buisness. They don'tmanufacture anything in this case just forward you to them who creates it.Nowadays they are into software developement also. They have many products that keep eye on users private data(Gdesktop and Gmail). But many people will cntinue to use google as it offers them more flexibility at the cost of 0$.

Developer's Corner / Re: Best way to start learning C++?
« on: October 27, 2007, 04:20 AM »
Agree with fodder.

 :)
Arun Borland is good for starters. But If your programming for windows only then it doesn't matter wheather u use Borland or MSVC as starting tool. But it matters if you are thinking for cross platform coding even befire learning the langauge which is absurd thinking. At that point learn C++ then go with wxwidgets or FLTK or EFLTK or GTK.

MSVC is good,it has express version with which you possibly can create commercial software like you can do with Turbo explorer. If you're recomnding TC explorer for beginer then it is quite good but the TC 3 outdated and not suitable for beginners anymore.Though it is used extensively i country like india, china, pakistan.Again, point is  VCL is bloated so better to go with MSVC express 2005 instead of TC3.

My advice :
Get good book like : Robert lafore or Even some online tutorials.
Use better compiler with Good IDE.DeevC++ is fine for starters.
Don't jump to GUI until you are comfortable with foundation concepts of OOP and other.

Hope it helps.

Hey bro renegade. It's not that easy man i've tried all my strngth by creating some guided help for such leechers.Again it is hard to point them from their spelling mistakes it is not manadtory for non english users to be fall in that categary.

What i've learned from my experiencce is these guys:

1.want quick solutions for their college or school work
2.or custom project for their needs for free
3.want to invest time on them for free

@renegade:you helped one guy but he's not appreciating at the end.

here is what i recieved last week on onecore.net

THANKS GUYS!!!

? Make a program that converts peso to dollar or dollar to peso, depending on the user desire. The user is asked which conversation he or she wants performed. If the desired conversation is peso to dollar, then the program reads in an amount in peso as well as the peso-to-dollar exchange rate. The program then outputs the equivalent amount in dollar and cents. If the user instead requests a conversation from dollars to peso, the roles of dollars and peso are interchanged.

? Make a program that will encode number from 1 to 20 and display the squared of the number from 1 upto the encoded number.
Example :
Enter a number [1-20]: 7
1 1
2 4
3 9
4 16
5 25
6 36
7 49

? Workers at a particular company have won a 7.6% pay increase. Moreover, the increase is retroactive for six months. Write a program that takes an employee’s previous annual salary as input and then outputs the amount of retroactive pay due the employee, the new annual salary, and the new monthly salary.

? Make a graph that will display the Philippine Flag with just a simple circle in the middle of the triangle as a sun…

lOOK at that its way hard to handle such leeches this guy sent comment on almost 7 articles realted to c++ programming.

I really freaked out  :( dealing with such people in real life as well as online.I'm really seeking for psychatrist or something for dealing with such people :)

Thanks arun for posting this maybe i can learn fromm opinions.

1349
@Renegade:Thats' cool that you purchase Suse.I might have chosen Mandriva or Feddora over that but still anyway that is not making diffrence until you're on another type of kernel like debian etc.Do PM me about your OS expereince and what you feel missing in linux.

Note:Well i'm not advocating for opensource or for linux or Hating MS in any way.I'm just advocating for the freedom of coding & feel of use that we've on the platforms other windows.

Developing under windows is just for getting job done.If you're having nack for coding then it is mere waste of time.As in case of windows programmig if you're creating commercial application as an individual you need to have lot of buisness skill its really hard to sell your product among competitors. In each and every piece that is already programmed for windows, you can't reinvent the wheel & get paid or get appreciated or even enjoy for coding that piece.Windows is too crowded for small-application developers now.

The combination of Blend & Visual C# will allow you create flash style visual appliations on PC.You'll able to create graphically rich, smooth & eye candy application, dialog boxes, tooltips for the windows. That is good for MS fans. But bad for unix or linux users, mozzila will find a way to run those silverlight presentation on Firefox but still who wants to invest time on that? Instead you can make other components or applications of opensource better.

There're plenty of options out there for windows programming, but it has less documentation or tutorials in depth like borland cpp builder, wxwidgets, jbuilder etc.On the other hand,If you participated in their beta releases and conference then chances are less that you gain from there. They are using you for there purpose, and in turn what you get chance to test their new technology. What's point in that?MS people can't think beyond there own OS,i don't know why? There term for cross platform is restricted to Windows (All version) & Apple (All version). They are letting developers to handle the issue of cross-platform etc, just tell me why we need to port the MS apps on other platform if MS don't care for that, they are afraid of opensource.I'm really worried about the programmers working on Opensource MONO project. They are wasting their time on making windows .NET portable over other OS.Why? If MS is not interested or is feeling threaten by opensource concept then creating project like MONO will not reduce the barrier between MS & other opensource platforms.

We the developers, designer and user keep the platforms alive.Take simple example if we choose linux hosting server & open source application to run on that server then indirectly keeping that platform alive.Again linux has no cost os for server owner and he's getting scripting packages free of cost. The performance of linux server is again much better than windows so no arguments about that. On the other hand for most of the windows scripting packages you've to pay for that and  the windows server is not good in performance, server owner has to pay for the license amount in upgrading OS.What's the point in that?

On the other hand Apple,BSD and other linux vendors & communities listens to the users & developers. We need OS that listens to the users like we have gathering of developers(e.g.Akademy,gudac) in case of linux where they listen to users unlike giving only demos and answetring queries only like MS.The corporation like apple do give back to the community and picks good ideas from them, they do some interaction with geek people & users. That is what counts, even if apple is expensive to buy but it's worth to keep that innovative platform alive.

We need lot of need for linux developers. If you're working on any existing linux application or want to create something from scratch then,You can get funds(if you asked for it @Ubuntu or GOC) and appreciation for the code you developed.Don't forget your code gets in to the hands of users and develoeprs which in turn find it useful & usable in future versions of app or system,it gives satisfaction.Again there are no licensing issues and threats like in MS.Also even if there may exist simmilar software as urs in linux, other developers appreciate it or even ask you for help in their project or ask you to merge if u want, which is very rewarding expereince. If all these not work with you even then code for open source or atleast under linux. You'll stop monotony of MS which is must as otherwise will create no rooms for developers.

1350
@Renegade:See i toldu it is total waste of time using MS technology.Only thing left now is to create more and more software and documentation for linux.Get yourself interested in linux apple or unix.

MS is actually in need of developers badly they are the one who stole from others ideas and then claim for the copyright violation etc. They are getting hands in every technology they copied Flash to create silverlight.now in future they'll claim as adobe violated some rules. In such case adobe will leave the platform obviusly.

I think we should get involved into linux developement, just have to lower the barrier of linux developement. We need tools to make linux developement easier.
